Sooner, the winds were really gusty when you were coming in and then it got calm and the wing lost the lift, and it just dropped from about 10' high. From my perspective, I don't think there is anything you can do different in that situation. Plus, as you stated, the way the gear was designed, it was made to do that on a hard landing and not damage the rest of the plane so I am glad to hear you got it fixed.
