I highly recommend Ezone for electric questions.

I think the Tigermoth is by far the preferred 1st plane over there, I started with a Megatech Merlin.

Keep in mind that landings (especially) with a very light electric are not at all like landings with a gas trainer. Takeoffs are fairly similar, but landings are not.

Of course, you didn't say where you wanted to end up. Although it may be heresy to say it here, many pilots never fly gas...
