I am looking for a beginner plane and want it to be a 3 channel. Does anyone know of a good electric one for a beginner that has landing gear? I want to learn ground takeoff and landings, but most of the beginner ones I see are for hand launching only. The one I am eyeing up so far in the "Sky Scooter" without landing gear. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi,
I was recently in the same cituation as you and i chose the T-Hawk , it comes with everything charger controller etc and its easy to buy spares for. I now own 2 and they are brilliant for days out with mates who want to learn to fly or just to go out and have a laugh with! plus they are good to learn rolling take offs and landings ! www.toytx.com/thawk3chrtf.html take a look .

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just looked at the Butterfly, but is it glow or electric? It looks like a nice plane. Tower has it listed as Glow. Thanks.

will take off from pavement and any smooth surface. I use a tarp over my grass and it works fine.
Pros
Cheap
easy to repair
easy to fly
Cons
Not areobatic (But thats usually a good thing when you're just starting out)
Check out the parkflyers forums here and on ezone
Make the mods to stregthen the wings and have a blast

head on over to ezonemag.com for some really good forums for e-flight.
My personal recommendation (biased... ;-) would be a sky scooter also. Fairly affordable, but figure in the cost of at least a decent charger ($50), and possibly some extra battery packs and the 3:1 gearbox/9.6 SF prop.
The SS is VERY easy to repair, epoxy is your friend! I can say it is probably impossible to crash it beyond repair, i've completely ripped mine in half, several times, still flys great!

I highly recommend Ezone for electric questions.
I think the Tigermoth is by far the preferred 1st plane over there, I started with a Megatech Merlin.
Keep in mind that landings (especially) with a very light electric are not at all like landings with a gas trainer. Takeoffs are fairly similar, but landings are not.
Of course, you didn't say where you wanted to end up. Although it may be heresy to say it here, many pilots never fly gas...
