Default RE: Name that Plane VI

We apparently have a "winner". I received a PM from Jon Lowe saying his father Don Lowe, (who was there, and was the winner of that Detroit Invitational in 1966), had looked at the picture, and has now identified the "mystery pilot" as LOU PENROD. Mr Penrod, (who I am personally unfamiliar with), was flying a plane of his own design. Don was not familiar with the plane's name, although close examination reveals the name "Saphir", or something close to it, (it's hard to read).

My sincere thanks to Jon, and Don Lowe for solving the mystery. Perhaps there are those out there in "RCU land" who knew Mr Penrod, (who has since passed away), and enjoyed the chance to see him flying again. That's the great thing about photography---it freezes that moment in time forever for those family members and friends who had the chance to know and fly with Lou. I know the "child" in that photo would love to have this picture as a keepsake. If any friend or family member who knows Lou, and the child in the photo would like the picture, I'd be happy to share it with them.

Thanks for all the help of those who joined me in the search.
