Since you used to fly before you could also check out the Hobbico Avistar. Its more of an advanced trainer but with a decent instructor and your previous experience it should work well for you. The plane itself is a sturdy design good for training and the the plane is more aerobatic than a standard flat bottom wing trainer once you have your thumbs back.
