reverse teh gears inside of the servo will only fix the problem if you can't get the motor to run the proper dirrection.
If you burnt the reciver, it is because you had reverse flow like on a "Brake charging speedcontrol" as the motor becomes a Generator.

This is why you should use OEM spec equipment and servos as designed for such. Even the frequency of the motor and gearing could be different and torque could change and if unballanced could cause handling issues.
Get the proper servo you need, and problems will end
