I found that with the ModelTech planes it helps if you use a iron and heatgun combo. I heat up the covering with a iron then go over it with a heatgun to smooth it out. Remember, the heat gun will shrink and the iron will activate the glue for a good stick.

I'm not master builder but this method works for me.
