Well our is field is made up of cinders and clay, but we do drag and roll it. If you leave the gear in the wing I would suggest to try it and if it doesn't work out then convert it to a tail dragger. I did the exact opposite once on a stick. It was designed to be a tail dragger and I make it a trike. Big mistake. After fighting it on landings I went back to the tail dragger and problems were gone. I'm still flying it...
