This suggestion is based on the fact that I am not totally sure of the configuration of your fuselage. I would suggest you cut out a complete section of the rear end big enough to take the complete tail wheel assembly. Glue in a piece of hardwood of the appropriate size. Sand/blend it to the fuselage contour and then fit the tailwheel.
