RE: Which field charger?
I use the duratrax ice charger. It's a little spendy, but I'm pretty much set for whatever i want to charge in the future. I got this unit becaue it has a display that graphs the battery taking a charge. Some may say it's hip and cool stuff you don't need, but I find it useful because it gives me a very good indication of the battery condition.
Just recently my dad bought a little futaba 4.8v reciever pack. After slow cycling it 10 times I could only get 50% of the capacity out of it, but even more important the charge rate as shown by the graph was all over the place. I pitched that pack and I'm glad I did, it may have caused a crash. On the flip side I have some GP batteries for my RC car and they charge smooth and steady.
You can also see the difference between the sanyos and the cheap stuff like the panasonic. The sanyo batteries when good take a uniform charge, level off, then the charger detects the peak when the voltage starts to dip. The walmart panasonics I have are all over the place and sometimes false peak because the voltage goes up and down so much.
I'm sure glad I paid the extra $70, it's been a great charger.
