Syn 90 3d
Mat and Chris,
I answer to you question, get one!!!
Set-up YS110, hard mounted, with hatouri pipe and header. A set of hitec digital servos on a 6v 2700mAh Ni mh, which is mounted in the rear fuz, approx 2” from the TE. CoG is “in there some where”, set as instruction sheet off the Znline web site, I think 230mm from TE. I recon for 3d it could still come back some more. IMHO the plane is very good. Mine came out about 7.5 lbs with the 110. I hade problems with the engine, this was chased down to fuel starting to go off and a doggy check valve. It was leaking air so wasn’t pressurising properly.
Now I have a reliable engine I am now stating to explore the capabilities of the plane. The engine has now had ½ gallon though it and it is getting better all the time. I am running a 15 x 8 and it seems to fly the aircraft a little too fast (fine for pattern though). I think for 3d a 16 x 8 to 16 x 6 will be better. The 6" pitch may let the engine over rev though at high speed.
The plane needs a fare amount of runway to take off (I fly off grass). More than I would expect. I think that it is down to the angle of attack of the wing and the 8” pitch of the prop. In the air it is a different story. It presents very well and is happy flying fast for pattern, will pull round a vertical 8 at ½ power with ease and the 110 just keeps pulling. As for 3d I am still investigating this as I trimming the plane etc. but every thing I have asked of it, it does very well. K.E. Loops KE. Side slips-elevators? at 0 mph (the side slips need a fare amount of elevator down but for normal KE there is no coupling), flat spins, Loads of high Alpha stuff, upright, inverted, and on it’s side. Haven’t tried rolling harriers yet as I can do them. Prop hangs are very stable, but as the pitch is high and the diameter smallish I am using more power for this manoeuvre then I would expect. I think with the engine looser and different prop there will be no problem. It will slow down very well; I am keeping the landings fast at the moment until I am happy with the stall and flying off the prop at low altitude also the 8” pitch doesn’t help.
After 8mins of flight I am using about ½ of the 14oz of fuel. ( I don’t normally fly over 10 mins) So I guess a 12oz tank would be a good option, save 2oz and will fit better.
Over all: very very happy. It is the best aeroplane I have flown…. I think an OS 108 or 91fx would be a very good alternative, to the ys110, running in the same rpm band as the YS.
Cheers
Kris
