If the tension is so great that you feel the need to disconnect, then it's probably too tight. Balsa changes size with temperature nd humidity changes. I know a guy that shipped a plane from one weather extreme to another and due to super tight rudder cables the change from a cold enviornment to a hot one tore the rudder servo out of the mounts.
