RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Flyer, I have no experience with that engine, but don't fear taking a knife and a dremel tool to that mount. DownT and I BOTH had to do so to mount OS 61FXs on the standard mount. You might look to see if your mount is seated correctly. The nylon/glass motor mounts should BARELY clear the cheeks, with or without an engine. If they show too much room between the cheeks and mount, see if the firewall holes are staight, first. If they're straight, remove the blind nuts (put a bolt in then tap it gently until it frees the blind nut) and drill out the holes a bit, whichever you feel needs it, in the DIRECTION it needs it, on ONE side, and then replace the mount and try again. If it STILL doesn't fit, drill out the OTHER side holes.
For my money, it'd be easer just to take a dremel tool to the mount. Yet, if those mounting holes are katywhumpus, it might upset the way the motor sits.
Yes, Wyld, I'm hoping for Friday p.m., too. If you're free, forget ol' Down. We'll put up that Uproar. Let me know.
Rick and I got to Massie Rd. about 11 today. I flew until I ran out of gas--a little less than half a gallon, about 4:30. I helped him fly the Magic, twice, watched him land and take off of the field (next time no more buddy cord); then I flew his J3-Cub a couple of times. In the slight cross-wind it was difficult to land, so he didn't take it up at all. I flew the Katana V2 three times and the 82 Twist four times--and would have put her up again but no fuel. She sometimes, the engine, flutters in inverted flight. But she never quit--until I ran her out of gas at 11:20, first flight. I think the wind made me use up a bit more fuel.
The wind was almost down the road but switched a number of times, 20 degrees N and S of dead West. But the field was pure--except for one very old snowmobile track. See pic. Note the looooong tracks. Those were fun to make--with all the birds. The Twist 82 made the longest ones. That's a nice field, but there are wires and poles behind you, and it's further than Swedetown ponds for me.
One moment of excitement. My left hand and forefinger got cold holding the trainer switch for Rick. I started rubbing it with my right hand. At one point, Rick, excited, asked, "You have it?"
The Magic was headed straight down. Just as he said that, of course, I saw something going very wrong, put my right hand back where it should have been and flew the gd Magic. It never got really close to the ground, but it WAS going fast. Gave us both a laugh.
Hope YOU guys had a laugh today.
