This opens up the big question I have raised.

There is Pattern. Flow with Pattern Planes

There is Artistic. Different then pattern, in style of flyn, however same type of equipment used.

There is IMAC or Scale Aerobatics. They fly sequences like pattern, however also perform 3D maneuvers during freestyle. And the obvious equipment differences.

Pattern and IMAC are both flown in competition and AA is being recognized World wide.

Then there is 3D planes. 3D planes have thick airfoil wings and some sort of of fuse the resembles a cross between a Cap and a pattern plane. These planes are designed for 3D flight, could be flown in pattern, not legal for IMAC and legal for AA comps.

Then there are Profiles and other short coupled Fun Fly type planes. Not really flown in comps and not the best tracking plane, sort of an entry level 3D plane, but would never consider for pattern.

Long and the short: 3D is a style of flyn. Not a type of plane. It can be flown with many types of planes.

IMAC and Pattern must be flown with their respective type planes.

We are crossing up the type of planes with the style of flyn. Some can do others, however none can do all.

How about 4 sub-catagories under Aerobatic.

Pattern
IMAC
3D
Artistic
