I say if he has a computer radio, i would recommend setting it up on dual channels. For the simple reason of redundancy.
I had a servo die (on the ground, not in the air thankfully) and it was on a y-cable..i think it was either shorting out, or causing some mean interference, cause both servos would not move (took me forever to figure out what was wrong...thought it was the rx cause i didnt figure on 2 servos dying at once)
When i disconnected the bad one, the other worked fine...and none of the other servos were getting a problem from it.
SO now i always use duals...not that it will happen again, servo failure seems to be rare, and my case seems to have been even more rare...but why risk it if you already have the radio for it?
I would go ahead and setup your flapperons too. Dont use them now, just set them up while you have all your tools out and are already checking throws anyways
You would be amazed what flaperons do on some planes, on my nexstar (even with the tiny ailrerons) it seems to being the landing speed down to about 10ish mph...where its normally around 15 or a little more...its crazy how slow i can land it now
