Default I know this sounds crazy!!!

Listen, I have a LE MANS 360ST electric motor that i got out of my old rc car(Kyosho Icarus). Its an off-road buggy and it was really fast. The engine off of it is in great condition. Its just parts now and will never be a complete car again. What I wanted to know is if anyone knew if that engine, being that is has alot of torque could be put in a foamy 3d flyer that I am cutting out. If so, what type of battery should I go with. I used to run off of a 7.2 volt 1200mah battery that seems very big. What kind of speed control would go good with it? Im planning on getting the HS-55 servos. The engine has external brushes on the back and it says racing motor on it. Its like 10 yrs old but looks brand new. Ive heard that you dont have to go with brushless motors to make a 3d foamy. I checked out the engine to see if it runs and she screams. Will it work???

It can work, but you will need to make or find a gearbox that will enable using a large diameter, low pitch prop for best results. Otherwise, you will have a very fast (with direct drive prop) but low torque plane that will not perform 3D well or at all. (you mentioned it is high torque- but wasn't it geared in the car?) If you try to bolt a large diameter prop to it, the resulting amp draw will most likely be quite high. This is all speculation but is based on general rules of E flight. The battery packs used in cars are generally made for high amperage loads but not necessarily with low weight in mind. You may want to invest in Li Poly technology with high "C" rated batteries after arriving at the amp loads needed to power your plane. (You could set it up on the bench and test it with an amp meter first to make your decision.) Hope this helps...

Well to be honest Im not sure that engine has alot of torque. I just assumed it did because if was for a racing off-road type of vehicle. Do you have yahoo instant messenger???I would really like to talk to you.
