Default What exactly is 3D Flying???

I am new to this, but I had thought that 3d meant the plane would accelerate vertically. But I read ppl talking about flying vertical, but the plane wasnt good at 3d, so i guess i was kinda wrong. Can anyone clarify this... Thanks.

The easiest defination would probably be a plane that will fly with complete contol at less than stall speed.

3D is a form of extreme aerobatics where the plane is made to perform maneuvers that you would not think possible. The most basic and most popular is hovering, where the plane literally hangs from the propeller in midair.

But, why not let the guys that actually do it tell you themselves?

3D flying, hmmmm. Is when a aircraft is able to be placed in extreme situations but under control by the operator. example: torque roll---the aircraft (airplane or helicopter) is in a stall but the roll aspect can be stopped, or the direction for the craft can be changed. The stall being one situation and the ability to control the direction, height and speed so the position is changed.

I hope that helps

How about, a plane or heli being flown far beyond the normal flight envelope.

I think 3D refers to 3 Diminsions. Normally an airplane flys in two diminsions. Up and Down and Right and left. Now you add a third diminsion which is forward and backward.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge about this may say that I am wrong but, I think that is what they are referring to.

3D is all of the above. It's like what I used to do with my planes before I learned to fly...only under controlled situations.

A poll asked, "What is your favorite 3D maneuver?"

[ul][*] Torque Roll 42%[*] Blender 19%[*] Terminator 19%[*] Harrier 15%[*] Elevator 8%[*] Waterfall 4%
[/ul]

I can't do any of these very well. It takes plenty of skill to master and is a real blast practicing for!

Hovering lost it´s "magic" now... all those new parkflyers and li-pos made everyone hover more or less... those who compete in "3D" now days only hovers a cople of seconds then pull out to do other harder stuff.

like Greg says, it´s hard to do it look good.

Here is an incredible video of some young R/Cer flying 3D in his basement with an Icarus ShockFlyer.

Click on the link and go to the video section.

Good question, Lynn. It sounds like something that ends up on the ground...not good.

In that case, I'm a pro at that one. Although I can't say that it's my favorite.
