Default Do Prop savers really work?

I am considering putting a prop saver on my GWS 6.6:1 gear box with 12x6 slowflyer props on my 3DX. Do they really work? I am considering the wing nut idea with a #11 or 12 oring.

I am also considering turning off my ESC's brake ... does this help?

I use a homemade prop saver made out of a standard size servo arm on all my planes that dont have a landing gear. I have yet to break a prop.

IMO, yes. I've used several home made prop savers with success. However I wasn't using them to save the prop, I was using them to save the prop shaft on my GWS gearboxes.

Just take a standard size 2 sided servo arm and bolt it to the motor like it was the prop. take and cut the rest of the prop shaft off about a .25" from the nut. Then all you need to do is rubberband the prop to the servo arm.Hope this helps.....Jeremy

Guys.... send me $1.00 to cover shipping with paypal to [email protected] and I laser cut one of my prop savers for you and mail it back!

They work awesome, save the prop, propshaft, and they make prop swaps simple!

They're not worth it is one statement. Another is that I haven't ever broke one prop since using them is another!!!!!!!![:'(] Never ruined another prop shaft since using them is another!!!!!!!!!!!1[:'(] I like to try lot's of stupid things real close to the ground. I'm never trying to land, it just happens sometimes when I'm doin stupid things. Anyone else agree with this and killed many prop shafts? Landing has little to do with it!!!!!!!!! And prop shafts get expensive and hard to come by when you do lots of fun, stupid things like I do............... YES, THEY DO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or as I do, get a wheel collar that fits the shaft, drill and tap another hole in the opposite side, use a couple screws to mount it to the shaft, then put a rubber band over the screws and the prop to hold it all together, works great.

Cut the shaft with a dremel with a cut off wheel.
John, sounds like a good idea. I'm gonna have to weigh it though, lol.

Hi, this system is almost what JhonVH meant. look [link=http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=2051]here[/link] and check if that would work, you also will need the special [link=http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=2052]shaft[/link].

Hey 007. That shaft is aluminum though. That can't be very strong. I would probably go through a hundred of those. I don't think the aluminum could stand a chance versus the colibri shaft that is made from 17/4 heat treated stainless steel. http://www.e-flightline.com/gearboxes.htm. I could be wrong though. Just my 2 pennies worth.
