Default Tensor 4D setup

Hello well Monday I'm jumping into the electric indoor thing. this is what Ive decided on so far.

Tensor 4D
2208/34, AXI
Propeller 10x4.7
Li-Poly 860mAH 11.1 Volt
hs-55 servos
here are the questions i have.
the battery i have chosen if i use the prop Ive chosen will a Phoenix 10 be ok? or should i upgrade to a Phoenix 25 ?
I want to buy more than one battery and i was wondering if a larger battery could be used for longer flight times or is the 3 cell 11.1 the max? is there a huge advantage to going with a 7.4v 2 cell? and where is a good place to get them i would love to find a place that will ship it right off would be nice if i could get this all by Thursday or fri.
is the axi motor the best choice? i know this question may open a can of worms dependable power is a must flight times can be extended by buying more batteries.
Is a small outrunner 370 and 340mah 7.4 the way to go? this stuff makes me dizzy your help is appreciated

Sounds like a good setup. I know guys are using even smaller motors and batteries on the Tensor for lighter weight indoors but I think what you have will work fine. A 25 esc gives a cushion on amps but a 10 should work fine, not using full throttle that much, which you wouldn't indoors.

George reccomends the Eflite 1080 Mv outrunner, I used the Eflite 1360 Mah motor which far exceeded my expectations to say the least.. The 1080 would be the choice with lower Mah packs (longer flight times) & keeping your planes weight down (wing loading lighter)
With prices like these brushless flight is being made very affordable for everyone..[8D]

I like the Eflite moto because it comes with the bullet gold plated connectors (pre-installed) the X motor mount the prop adapter all included for roughly $49.99..Lot of bang for the $$..Performance is great..Hovers around half throttle..I used a Phoenix CC 25, but Eflite makes a 20A ESC (BL) very reasonably priced..LHS had one for $40.00-$41..Nice ESC..

Continuous Maximum Current: 20A
Dimensions: 1.4x.95x.37 in (36x24x9 mm)
Weight: .5 oz (14 g)

CC Phoenix 10

I was under the assumption that the AXI setup was a better performer and would out last the eflight outrunner. I seen the eflight motor on the chief aircraft web site but it doesn't list the size other than the 370. Right now im looking at the batteries Im asuming that the 3 cell batteries will spin the prop faster and i should down size the prop from a 10X4.7 to a 9.38 if i go to a 3 cell im figuring 1.5oz to 2 oz on the battery deciding on this stuff is a pain. i will save about $45 if i use the outrunner 370 the battery thing is driving me nuts

I see some use Tanic 2s 830 and Thunder Power 2s 860, APC 10X4.7 SF.

This will kill your engine. Smaller prop or 2S Lipos

well i went and did it but due to cash flow i decided to use the e-flight 370 outrunner but i still went with the 3 cell 860mah and i used eflight's 20 amp ESC Im curiouse what kind of gear drive setup would go with this if any. So you think that the 3 cell packs will try and spin the prop to fast? sounds like i should exercize throttle managment. in a gym you have to do that anyway. given the size of the plane the size of the bateries what motor prop combo do you feel would make this thing managable?

I have an axi 2208/26 with a 3S li-po 700 mah with the pheonix 10 that runs on a 9 x 4.7.
Runs good for me.

Blue I hope you got the 1080 Kv as the Eflite 1360KV outrunner is set up for use with 2s Lipo use...If its the 1080 your ok..with the outrunner no gear box is needed..Just check the reccomended prop size to ensure your not over proping .. IIf its the 1360 you might want to look at a 9 4 7 prop and if its a 1080 a 10 4.7 prop..I'll have to checki with a meter on the 1360Kv but it should be ok..

its definetly the 1360kv and a 3s 11.1v pack and a 10X4.7 prop the man that sold this all to me said it screams with this setup not that i need all that much power. Ive been looking around and i haven seen anyone running this setup should i be running to the local hobby shoto get a smaller prop and or a smaller lipoly or a smaller kv motor or for fun all of the above

I have a Tensor with the E-flight 370 1080 outrunner and it runs great. Lots of power. I'm using a Phoenix 10 with a 3 cell 350 multiplex battery. I'm pulling 7 amps at full throttle and it pulls 3 to 4 amps in a hover. The 3 cell 860 does a great job to.[8D]

What size prop are you running and what is your flight time? Thanks.

I'm using the 10x4.7SF APC prop and I'm getting about 6 1/2 to 7 minutes. I'm trying to keep the plane as light as possible. Thunder Power is releasing a new 3 cell 450 that weight 33 grams. It's going to be rated at 16C bursts. I will be trying on of them as soon as them come in. The reason why I choose the Multiplex 350 is because it's rated at 20C.

We just flew two more - one with a Himax 2808 860 and the other with Park 370 - both 3 cell setups -The Himax on the 9x4.7 is really good ! all up weight with 350 Multiplex is just under 9 ounces .
JR 241 servos -- bare 610 Rx-P10 speed control-- otherwise stock.
Thse suckers are really odd-
aileron is strictly roll and rudder is strictly turn --
but -elevator is just elevator -

Default RE: Tensor 4D setup

Well im almost done putting this together and guess what setup is all wrong lol. Now I know im a newbe at electrics so bear with me.
the 10X4.7 prop woll pull stumps on a big battery pack like a 1500 3s 11.4V but a 860 thunder power spins it about 1/2 as fast. this is a 1360Kv Im asumming the speed controller wont let the motor pull the amps of that little pack I know im over the spec on this motor running a 3s 11.1v pack. I am asumming if i down size the prop on the smaller pack it will spin up as fast as it does on the bigger pack Any one wana hazard a guess as to what size prop i shoud get?

Try a 9-4.7
I think you are right, the motor with the 10-4-7 is demanding more than the pack can deliver so the voltage drops below what the speed control cutoff is set for.

Sounds bad. Are you setting the charge voltage at 11.1 volts for 3 cells? Are you discharging to 9 volts for 3 cells?

yes and yes what i havent one is flown the plane wih it. I do know that the amount of rpm's i get with this pack has doubled with the distcharge and charge of the battery Im waiting for a powersupply to come for the charger I killed my field battery for my glow planes messing with this and had to wait a day to get the field battery up to speed at a 600MA rate that might be a while. Tonight is flying night at the gym im sure ill kill it with the plane there. but i still feel its not up to it and the attempt may produce some problems.

Could you charge off your car battery? I do all the time at the field. Of course maybe you are right about the battery.
