i live in the UK and ordered direct from ikarus in Germany. it will be a few months before the shops have them for sale here. i did the same with the Pitts shocky which is destined for the VPP. one thing to note, if you build the hub as shown in the photo ( pitch linkage trailing the blade grip ) you get binding on the 2 screws that would normally have the O ring retaing a GWS type prop, with what looks like very little pitch? i have built mine with the links leading the blade grips ( the pin in the blade grips is offset front to rear ) and will put a meter in the system to see what current i'm drawing. if you are using this setup on another motor, you need motor shaft protruding to fit the hub ( like a heli tailrotor ) onto. if you use the red ikarus motor, no shaft is protruding from the front as the blade holders screw directly to the motor. you would not get the binding i was refering to earlier if the hub is used.

I wonder why can't we have an effect similar to this by simply using a reversing speed control, like the ones they use with RC cars ? OK it won't be so effective as this solution, but I think it will work quite a bit. What do you think ?

Obolel,

This system does not reverse the motor, only reverses the pitch of the prop. As such there is no time lag associated with slowing down and stopping the prop, then starting and accelerating in the reverse direction. The time lag will be too great, plus you will be putting a great strain on the motor when you hit the reverse suddenly, as it will draw high amps for a short period.

Yes I agree, by saying inefficient, I was thinking of that rotation, but this is what the RC car guys doing all the time, forward and reverse quickly... Whatever, just a thought.

Its a thought, and it would work, but will be really difficult to manage. I would not dare to try it, as my flyting skills are not great, but no doubt there will be people who have tried it.

Also another point to bear in mind is that the efficiency of the prop will be very low backwards, as the props airfoil is designed for one way rotation. SO maybe a customised prop??

If you do try it, do let us know how it went. [8D]

it would work, but the violent change in torque from anticlockwise to clockwise ( or vice versa ) would probably twist the front off a shocky? on a note regarding the ikarus red motor that appears to be an axi 220454? it is not that motor, the hub part that a fixed pitch prop would go on is about 4mm further forward from the rotor. also, the motor in axi terms would be a 2205?? ( don't know the wind ) so it may well have 30% more oomph than the 220454.

I FINALLY got mine from OMP yesterday so maybe everyone else will start getting theirs. According to the paperwork that came
with the motor it is an "S2" and has a Kv of 1400. This is almst certainly an AXI 2204/54 with a hollow shaft and a modified front
bell to accomodate the IKARUS PPS system. The reason it is longer where the prop saver resides is to make room for the blades
when they change pitch. The prop saver is actually tapped to receive the bolts that hold on the blade grips. I'll be assembling mine
in a few minutes and let you know how it goes.

OK, just finished assembly and I must say I'm Impressed [sm=thumbup.gif]. Parts fit and finish are exceptional. Only thing
I found wrong was the supplied allen wrench did not fit the tiny set screws (tad bit large). Luckily I had one to fit. I have one
of the EVP systems from Hobby Lobby and believe me, it's a JOKE compared to this setup. All in all I'm thrilled with this thing and
can't wait to get it on my Shocky Yak!!! IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!

@ rc-eflyer, it is not a 2204, like i said before, it is a 2205,the black band that has the magnets glued to it is 5mm long, and not 4mm. ( the length of the black ring that has the magnets glued to it is how AXI come up with the second 2 numbers of motor designation ) i dissassembled my 220454 and drilled the prop saver. there is enough room for the bladegrips without the extra distance ( JUST ). it works ok but has not got the power of the ikarus 2205??.

MalaysianFlyer,

Give them a call to get things straightened out the fastest. I was supposed to be on the first batch that came in, but never received anything. I sent a few emails but got no reply. I finally called yesterday and somehow I wasn't on the list of orders they had in front of them, but they said they would find my order and ship one out to me that day. The lady who I talked to was very nice and gave me no trouble at all. It's amazing what a phonecall can do compared to an email!

Hey Carl, did your pps come in yet? I still haven't put my home-brew on yet, I think I'm going to buy the Ikarus one (I don't trust my blades).

It arrived at home today, and has been forwarded on to me here in CA. Who knows how long that will be...hopefully mid-week. I'll post pictures as soon as I fly.

Does the kit without the motor come with the hollow shaft like the picture appears to show?? I ordered just the prop kit since my eflight motor has an 1/8" shaft. Now I'm a little nervous that the OMP kit doesn't come with a hollow shaft. Do I need to order a new motor?

Got mine in the mail today, and started putting it together. The prop kit comes with a plastic hollow shaft, but I think the best thing to do for your motor is to find some 1/8" OD stainless steel tubing. That should hold up better than the plastic shaft. You should be able to take off the set screws and E-clips and get the shaft out with a press or something, then replace it with a hollow one. Hopefully my Yak will be flyable by tomorrow evening...pesky day job!

The plastic tube that comes with the PPS is NOT intended to be a hollow motor shaft. It is there as a guide for the pushrod that
goes thru your motors hollow shaft to the pitch mechanism.

Does anybody have any close up pictures of how the unit attaches to the motor? My setup is at a friends house, he is putting together my Shocky 540 and installing this system. Apparently you leave off the shaft mount and install this directly to the prop saver on the Ikarus motor, is that correct?

Thanks in advance,

Ken
