Well guys,
Tonight we went to our local gym. Three of us here all built the new Great Planes "Reflection" biplane.
After hearing so much about these wonderful planes, we all had to have one.
Tony Stillman, Bill Altman, and myself all arrived at our local high school gymnasium for a night of wild flying pleasure. We were intent on wringing these awesome planes out, and we gave it our best.
The Reflection flys good outdoors, but take it indoors and its a whole other beast. The Reflection is an incredible machine in the "no wind" environment of indoor flying. These planes are so stable and maneuverable, we couldnt resist trying a little......
FORMATION FLYING!!!!
Tony ran out of batteries for his Reflection, but he took his Ikarus Yak up with us.
We were all hovering together in a very tight group formation. Occasionally coming within inches of each other.
The Reflections performed perfectly, and it was an awe inspiring sight seeing all those planes flying at one time in unison.
I compare every plane I fly with a shocky as a base comparison. Ive always been partial to the shockflyers. After flying a Reflection, I have found that it has some unique flying capabilities that far surpass the shockflyers. The reflection will hover very smoothly, and is capable of somethings the shockies just wont do.
Anyway....on to the good stuff. Pictures.....I know you all wanted to see them...so here they are.
Enjoy!!!!

Oh...I am so jealous. I have really been enjoying my reflection. I wish we had an indoor site around here. I have been finding that the less wind there is the sweeter this thing flys. I can only imagine how it would do indoors. Cool pics...[sm=thumbup.gif]

Yea we had a fun time last night in the gym, Bryan even had LED lights installed on top of his wing looked really cool especially when he flew it outside in the dark. Been flying all the shocky's and having fun, I personally didn't think flying 10 oz + planes indoors would be very successful. But after flying the reflection indoors it has changed my thinking. The plane is stable even at slow speeds. I recommend this plane to anyone who wants an all out 3d capable foamy indoors or out. Bill

Glad you guys are having fun with this plane. They can be built lighter but the wing area allows it to still fly quite well at that weight. When i build Sean's they finish out and fly at about 8.5 ounces with an 830 3 cell. Have fun and enjoy... and thanks for sharing all the pics with everyone.

With the materials in the kit, I think it will be nearly impossible to build one under 9.5 - 10 oz. I tried to go light with my build, using a 2-cell battery and a higher kv motor. I still ended up at 11oz RTF. I can only see me being able to trim maybe an ounce from that...It still flies nice though.
A friend of mine (who is now building a Reflection after seeing mine fly) and I were talking about tracing all the parts and building a couple from depron using traditional foamy construction techniques. I think we could get them pretty light that way. Of course, they may end up being indoor or calm day only models then.

While waiting for the reflection to come out I scratch built one slightly smaller using AXI 2204 ,phoenix10,306 servo's and used 480 packs weighed in at 5.5 oz. It fly's very similar to the reflection and have been having fun flying it indoors. I think some weight could be saved on the new reflection which will make it even better, but for now I am having fun with it. Good luck Bill

Surprisingly, the Reflection will slow down pretty well even if its heavy. It wont slow down like a 6oz shocky, but it is slow enough for even small gyms in the hands of a capable pilot.
It takes a while to get used to flying it, but once you "lock in" its a blast to fly.

Hey bdavison, what gymnasium did you guys use to fly in? Is it the same one off Texar where the meetings are? I was gonna try and get into the one at PJC, very large inside...

Nice pictures, I just got one from TowerHobbies, probably put it together soon, I can't wait to fly it. I will use a 2208/34 Axi, and 3c 910 battery.
