E-flite Ultimate....the new one
#51
nanner1 from your comment about the loop and it falling out.. it must be really heavy or theres something way off. i have 4 electrics and i started with electrics/they all have more than enough power to hover and maintain vertical and pull out easily. i havent purchased this plane yet but was thinking about it.. it has around a quarter more wing area than the yak and is only a little heavier.. your plane should float in the air/the 10x4.7 is for the lighter indoor set up/id try and apc 11x4.7 im sure if everything else is rite with plane it has to be the battery weight and the reciever. doing some research here kokam 1500 3cell 11.1v 3.95oz/if your running a 3cell 7.4 that would really explain the proplem e-flite lipo 3 cell 1200 3oz. not a huge difference/but an oz. id give a e-flite rep a call at # i posted earlier/the 450bl would probally pull the plane all over the sky/its for the mini edge and planes in the 20oz. range/youd probally have some problems getting cg rite with it to. also theres two 400 out runners.. the 920kv im running and a 740kv.

thanks for the info the support center is closed for the week end so i have to go it alone so if you were to switch motors (because i am gona try it ) should i go with an in runner or the 450 out runner. the 400 i have is the 740 i just want to make sure i have enough thrust to go straight up for ever lol not sure which way to go with this. is the 890 rpm per volt enough.
#54
890 kv is more than enough with the 450.. kv = rpm per volt.. but theres also a torque issue 890 in the 450 and 920 in the 400 are totally different more rpm in the smaller motor but less torque.. the 450 at 890 kv can swing a bigger prop with more pitch than the 400 outrunner. 450 would rip the plane around the sky most of the guys in this post with the 400 outrunner have decent performance. the choice is up to you/id ask the local shop for feedback. id see if they would give you an exchange since they sold ya the wrong motor for the plane. personally i like the 400 in the yak and would probally use it in the ultimate.

goodluck/hopefully they exchange it.. some shops are just like that/there not familar with the products and just sell you stuff. usually it helps if they have people that fly and have real expierence with what they sell. with e-flite stuff there good with there reccomended set ups and they have guys flying what they sell with diffent set ups before it hits the market and they know what works and its on the box and on there site... inrunner set up http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByC...er+Motor+Setup outrunner set up http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/RelatedParts.aspx?ProdID=EFL2175&Category=Completi on+Guides&SubCategory=High+Power+Outrunner+(direct +drive)+Motor+Setup lightweight for indoor set up http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByC...htweight+Setup indoor set ups look so cool.. they have good power and low weight and fly so precise.. but they fly in no wind.. and most people have to fly outdoors

i got the 450 in her and wow much better but ther is one small thing i forgot to mention i am in utah at 4500 feet and i guess that makes a difrence in the flight performanse also but it is great now with the 450 in it oh and BTW they only gave me 1/2 my money for the 400 because i used it even though the owner told me thats what i need i guess its time to find a new LHS

Nanner1 good to hear you got it flying better/altitude never occured to me.. im in the midwest and its not a problem out here/my planes would probally seem sluggish out there. from what ive read guys in the higher altitude areas loose up to 1/3rd of power because of air density. i know with nitro and gassers it would be a problem because of needle settings on carbs. bummer about half back.. the hobbyshop should be well aware of altitude issue out there and especially knowing its gonna power a aerobatic plane that needs high power to weight. to me if i had a shop and someone bought that plane i would definately reccomend the the 920kv or better because of that issue the 740kv outrunner would be weak out here even. how did it balance out ? and what type of run times are you getting ? also what prop are you using with the 450 ? it should be like flying like a rocket with the 450 atleast out here it would with the 450.

I'm no electric pro, but that would definitely be too heavy.
Now I have a question. I am interested in this plane, but I need REDICULOUS vertical power without adding REDICULOUS weight. I have a 1320 3-cell and Phx-25 esc, what motor, in or out would give me the best vertical performance?
BTW, rediculous to you would be satisfactory to me, because I fly at 6500 feet...

Hi Guys! I have flown this plane with a 760 outrunner (no good), a 920 outrunner (not bad) with both 1200 3cell and 2480 3 cell.
The 760 is going back into the E-Starter on floats where it belongs.
The plane came out a little nose heavy even with the smaller batteries. Still flys well and will pull out of a hover--barely. Tried with 10x4.7 (not enough thrust) Ended up using 11x4.7. I tried a 12x3.8 but the amp draw was about 17. My batteries won't take that.
This plane will 3D but there are plenty out there that will do better. There aren't any foamies that are prettier, however. I enjoy just flying around, doing pattern stunts, nice long verticles, an occasional hover, and just looking at a great looking airplane. For this reason, I'm using my 2480 Apogee batteries and getting run times of about 1/2 hour. The nose heaviness isn't an issue, probably helps in our usual 10-20 mph wind. I save the 1200s for the E-Flight Yak, a far more 3D capable plane.
If I were serious about real 3 D performance with the Ultimate, I'd go to the 370-5400 or the 400-4200 and play with gear ratios and props. I'd be looking for about 40 oz static. Speed isn't important so either of these inrunners could supply that thrust at 25 to 30mph without amping the batteries to death.
Good luck, Randy

Well, flew mine today, 4 flights. Powered with the E-flite 400 inrunner on 1320 li-po it flew very well 'specially considering we had 15 mph winds today. Probably was a little nose heavy but like I said, flew well.
I swearing off foamies though, even nice ones like this one. Took the landing gear off the plane every time I landed it and there wasn't a bad landing in the bunch, just 1&1/2 inches of grass. Then, one time I decided to land it without the landing gear, even bigger mistake. The aeleron pushrods dug into the grass on landing & messed up the wing. I got this thing to fly around in the yard but I might as well have got a glow plane. Cost of keeping it in the air would be cheaper.

Oh yes! This is my next airplane! Hope I don't have to wait too long.
I just picked up a Park 10 motor on sale for $30 and was looking around to see what could go with it. Perfect timing!
