Default Streamers?Do they really work?

I saw a few foamies with streamers and i read about it in a magazine. I see that they produce drag with out and sacrafice of weight.Do they really work or just for looks?

They do put alot of drag on the plane, I wouldnt say it changes the flying charectoristics, just makes you use your battery up quicker. Its more for asthetic presentation than as a speed brake.

i have done some air show flying with foamies with streamers. i use the thin neon materal you can find at home depot for marking off land. it's about 1 inch wide and i usually make them about 7 to 8 feet long. i have tried them on planes with alot of power and planes with just enough and i have had found no power effects from the streamer, just have to be carefull in snaps and stalls to keep them from getting in the prop!!!! lol. trust me i have learned this one!!! but i had one of the balsa products extra 32" wingspan models with an hacker a20-20l motor and put 8 foot stremaers on each wind tip and i had no trim change or change in flight time.

well i tried putting streamers on my plane. Was a little scary. It was effected greatly by the VCR cassest tape. It just wanted to dive into the ground. After a rough landing i stripped them off and flew again. Way better and i didnt see a real speed difference.

I put three streamers on the tail of my Flatana about 4 months ago when I was still learing 3D (I still am, but I can at least get a rock solid hover and torque roll now.) It made it so much easier to hover, just cause it would pull on the tail and keep it nose up. Didn't effect the rest of the flight performance any. Just be sure that they're not long enough to catch the prop. One on the elevator did during a tail slide and chopped the elevator off on that side.
