I had bought this plane last summer and completed it durring late fall and winter. Im running a himaxx 4100 i forget the gearing right now, a 3 cell 11.1volt 1500mAh lipo. I maidened this plane mayeb 2 weeks ago, and I LOVE IT. this plane is very nice, it gives you the forgivness that is needed for a beginner 3d flyer. i have had my "hard landings" and the only thing is that the canopy breaks but is easily fixed by hot glue. I highly recommend this plane to anyone, beginner or not, its wonderful.

i see no flight changes from flex even when im doing hammer heads at full throttle, the only thing is that the tail bends slightly, but i have only seen that durring tail wages and it didnt make the plane respond any different. i fly it for about 15 minutes on a single charge. with a 10x4.7 prop, it goes verticle with no problem. you can do anything you want, hover, snap roll, whatever you want. make sure you follow the CG properly, or the plane will be an issue while trimming. also the inner canopy is weak, make sure you put something in it to make it stronger. otherwise heat up that hot glue gun. other then that. ist great, i recomend you get one.

I just finished my Yak-55 Flight-flex, but I'm still waiting to maiden it, crappy weather. It's got an eflite park 370 1320 kv outrunner in it, with, at the moment a 640 mah 3S LiPo in it. When I next get money I'll buy it a 1500, or 1320. From testing it though it looks like it'll torque roll at like 1/3 throttle lol. I can't wait to get this thigh airbourne, it's been windy, and/or rainy ever since I finished it, but I imagine it'll fly something like the U-can-do ep. I'll let you know once I get it in the air!

Get the Eflite Park 370 1360 Kv outrunner : $50, and the Eflite 20-amp Brushless ESC : $42. This stuff wil hover the plane at about 1/3 throttle, amazing. I'm still waiting for a good day, it's been really windy lately, and the only good days I've been at work or to busy
I'll be on vacation this weekend so it won't be then either, I'm hoping sometime next week I'll get a shot at it. I'll make sure to let you guys know though, if this thread is gone by the time I post about it I'll just make a new thread about the Yak 55 flightflex. Ohh, you'll need a stickmount for that motor with the plane, no biggie though, Eflite makes one, and it works perfectly with that motor. Go ahead and use the stock prop, it seems perfect to me, I'll let you know if anything needs to be changed once I maiden it.

Finally got it airbourne, all I can say about the plane and the gear I have in it is amazing. With that much power I thought it might flex when it got up to speed but there was no wiggle at all that I could see. Not only that but with that park 370 brushless, OMG, I had my bro hand launch for me and it could have put an estes rocket to shame with its speed and acceleration. It flies quite well, and despite it's appaerent flexibility it stays quite stiff while airbourne. It was a little windy for a first time but I couldn't wait any longer, it was about 11 knots, or at least that's what I was told. On that note it does not like wind at all, but that's to be excpected with a 3d plane. Overall I'm extremely impressed, with my setup it could torque roll at a little less that 1/3 throttle, and at 1/3 I had a nice slow rise. I haven't even had the chance to put on 3d throws (battery problem), but it pulled a fairly tight loop with only 45% elevator, about 5 feet in diameter or so. To end the flight the wind was about the same speed that I wanted to land at, so I throttled down and made a perfect set down with the plane hardly moving at all in relation to the ground. So, I suppose the only thing I haven't really tested, other than a full 3d workout (I'm not even that good yet), is durability, and to tell the truth, if I have my way, I won't, ever
The only problem other than the eventual fact that the wind was just to much, was that it was a stupid idea to use my 3s 640 mah 15C pack... WTH was I thinking?! When I took the battery out of the plane after say, 3 - 5 minutes of flying, I thoght I was gonna have to ditch it because it was so hot! Then I thought about it for 4 seconds and said hmmm 15 C of 640 mah is 9.6 A, and my speedo is rated for 20 A... So, I won't be flying that again until I can spare $50 for a nice thunder power 1500 mah. All in all so far though, I really love this plane, and would reccomend it to anyone interested, and some who aren't!

thanks, the one problem i have had, is the foam, when it gets weak it crumbles, and then tears, i have modified my front end, because of the lower have of the fuse kept coming off, balsa and hotglue fix everything on theres planes, i love the u-can-do and wont stop flying it until its just a motor pulling a fuse

It's because the adhesive used in the making of epp foam will deteriorate after time and continual flexing. I'd use a lightweight, flexible glue, and only just enough where you start to notice crumbling. In my experience a little hot glue spread and melted into the foam can do a world of good, this is talking from experience with this foam in other applications, as my yak hasn't shown any signs of age yet.

thanks much

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=EFLM1915 for the motor mount, they had it in stock at my LHS, I'm getting a thunder power 3s 1320 mah LiPo for mine, my little 640 can't handle it. Basically any good quality LiPo that's about 1500 mah should work, just make sure it can put out the amperage required, like the pack I'm getting can put out 17A continous, 20A burst, That's more than enough for that motor, or should be. Also, go ahead and use the stock prop with that motor, you need to reem the inside of the prop a little to get it to fit onto the prop adapter that comes with that motor, and you may need to fiddle with the prop adapter itself if you've never used one before. I'll let you guys know when I get some additional flight time, and how it goes.

I have a friend who has a U Can Do 3d EP made stock
with the stock brushed speed controller and brushed motor.
The speed controller has a thermal protection on it and backs the throttle down
to 70% once max temp is reached.
Does anyone have any experience with cooling the ESC better than just how it comes
configured stock? Any mods for more airflow?

Honestly all I can think of is if you were to get an esc that can handle higher amperages. I haven't seen this thread in quite some time, but now that I see it I remember I was gonna tell people how it flies and such. I've only currently got about 2 good flights on it because of one stupid problem or another, that and lack of time. First my ESC blew, then I got that replaced on warrenty, then the motor blew, and I just got that back last week, but haven't had the chance to fly again, yet. From what I can see though, it flies great, it does have what I would call some mushiness in the controls when you're going fast as you would expect, but it torque rolls really easily. In general it's a great aircraft, especially for learning on, now I don't have to risk my turmoil when I'm learning something new.
