Default Trying to reduce weight

I have a problem with my Jr 610UL Rx's. Turns out they are incompatible with HS55 servos. So rather than buying another new Rx I wondered if anyone had tried removing the case from a JR R700 Rx? The idea is just to get it as light as possible without spending a lot more money, of course. I have an R700 in a plane that I no longer fly so I figured why not. The case came off very easily, and I figured I could just shrink wrap it.

TIA

Don't see why that would be a problem. Stripping and shrink-wrapping receivers is a pretty common practice for reducing weight.

All receivers are compatible with all servos, at lest thats what I've experienced. Try the connector in both ways.

Turns out the R700 is not gonna work anyway. I have tried 2 JR 610UL Rx's and 2 JR R700 Rx's. The Hitec HS55's jitter and glitch with any of the 4. Worse with the 610UL's though. I tried a Hitec Electron 6 and they don't jitter at all until I am more than 100' from the Tx with teh Tx antenna collapsed.

Against my wishes I will try the Hitec Rx. I have never had good luck with any Tx's or Rx's other than JR in the last 23 years. I can't get the JR S241 servos I want though. Horizon lists them as out of stock and my LHS is out of them. I am surprised though that the Electron 6 is more expensive than the JR 610UL and it's heavier. The 610UL comes with a crystal for the same price as the Electron 6 without it so then you add $13 for the Hitec crystal, oh well.

They work fine with my JR 649 PCM Rx, but that's too big to run, besides my Raptor 50 is not gonna loose it's Rx for this little 3D plane.

Thanks for the responses guys.

The Hitec receiver is more expensive because it's dual conversion, verses the Hitec which is single. What that means is that the Hitec can do all the channels on the 72mHz band, whereas the JR can only do half. DC (Dual Conversion) will get better range and less glitching problems, but are inherently heavier.

wildjaych Hmm, very interesting.

Ryguy, I'm not sure that's incorrect. The JR Rx can be changed to any channel we are allowed to use from 10-60. I have verified recently that changing from 12 to channel 60 myself. But you are correct in that the Hitec Rx is Dual and the JR is single conversion.

I switched to JR 16 or so years ago because of severe intereference with Futaba and Airtronics radios. Since the switch I have not once had a glitch in the air. Ya know you are only willing to lose so many planes before you change something. Now that I have so much JR equipment I can't afford to switch back anyway. This is also the first plane or heli I have had since then to have glitching using JR Tx and Rx, it's also the only plane using no JR servos. Most of my aircraft have only JR servos, 1 has 2 HS225 and 1 has 3 Futaba 9252.

Unfortunately right now I cannot get the JR S241 servos as Horizon is out of stock and so is the LHS. I suspect they are replacing it as they did reently with the DS281 to the DS285. The Eflite S75 servos did not jitter or glitch at all, but they are a bit sloppier than the HS55 servos so I'm not sure exactly what to do. I am not comfortable with the Hitec Rx or the servos and I learned, the hard way, that if I am not comfortable with it don't fly it. When I do it doesn't come back in 1 piece.

FWIW, I generally get 150-200' on a range check with no glitching or jittering at all and until this plane can do that it will remain on the ground. Just for kicks I have flown my Eflite Ultimate with the Tx antenna fully collapsed to prove it could be done. Course I keep it close in when I fly it anyway.

I wish the Berg 7 channel Rx was available, this would not likely be an issue than. I may break down and buy another JR 770 PCM.

Funny you should say that
I took my 649S out of my Rap 50 and put it in the foamy with Waypoint servo's , The reciever was without case of course, I like the soilid PCM link it gives to the model

Now more than ever I am thinking about going to PCM for all my models. Currently all my helis use PCM and my planks get FM.

The jittering/glitching issue was resolved by using a Hitec Electron 6 Rx with a very carefully routed antenna. However, the antenna is rtun straight to the tail and cannot stay hanging about 18" off the tail. I have already stepped on it once and it got stuck between the rudder and vertical stab in flight also. So now I am trying to figure out how to deal with the excess length of the antenna. I am not gonna try and use a whip antenna and if I run it back towards the front I get glicthing.
