Default Katan mini setup.

Hello all,

I just looked at the Precision aerobatics mini Katana and I really like it in the videos + I've heard good comments about it unlike the MF. I have a 1320 TP lipo that I would like to use and just to let you guys know that I want something that will work with 1320 not 2100 since my old one is dead. Would a eflite 450 and tp 1320 work with that? or apex 2100 and 480? Apex is cheap!

Any comments?

This is funny, I've been trying to get a set-up for my mini Edge and TP 1320's. It was suggested to go with a 450 outrunner to stay away from gear boxes or go with a 400 inrunner, ( I'm going with the Himaxx 2025-4200kv) and a Cobri gear box. I guess Cobri is the best and wont strip out like as easily.

Cheers

Jay

Use the Hacker A-20 20L or equivelent outrunner with your 1320. Use very light servos (bluebird 306) and leave off the landing gear. You'll be at 19-20oz RTF. It will fly just like a foamy with the characteristics of a 28% plane.

The setup novabill suggested will work, but will be very light for the KM. A more common setup is a Park 480 with a Polyquest 1800, 1500 at the smallest.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will try a eflite 480 with 1320 since that looks good I just have to keep the throttle management in mind so I will kill the battery.

I've been doing some research on the Katana ( most likely my next plane) and on Precision Aero's website they have a link th rc groups thread. It's quite extensive and there are alot of recommended power set-up but the one caught my eye which the link sends you to e-flightline's websight and there videos. They show there best set-ups for the Katana. One was the 2015-5300 with 1320s and was great but not a ton of power. The preferred set-up was the 2025-5300 and TP2100 prolites, all used the cobri gearbox 6.3:1. Not that an outrunnner is a bad choice. I think they're are a bit bias sense they make the cobri gearboxes as well

Just more food for thought, and just my opinion, too.

Good Luck

Jay

I just finished the KM. Very Nice Bird! Just wanted to share to anybody building about the included pushrods. The pushrods come with one end assembeled. Hold the pushrod, and give the wire (z-bend) a little twist. They ALL came loose! Possible this was a bad batch, etc. I sanded the parts up, held them togeather with thin ca, wrapped them with line, then thick ca, then the shrink tube.
