Is this a good 3d transmitter for a first choice?

RE: Is this a good one?
It will work, but honestly, Id look for something with a little more programmability.
Look for a good used Futaba 6EXA. Its a good beginners radio, and it has the ability to program Expo...which is something you will definatly want if you plan to start flying 3D eventually.
If you plan to use it on foamies or small electrics, you can also just get the radio itself without the rx and servos and save some money. You will probably end up using third party rx's and servos anyway...like the little Berg 4L's etc.
If your wanting JR radios...there are a couple of choices.
The DX6 is a cool little radio if you want spread spectrum, but it lacks some programmability, also recievers are still kinda pricey, and you'll have to use Spektrum recievers.
The JR 6102 is pretty much JR's version of Futaba's 6EXA

I am currently using the Futaba 6EXA in a few of my planes and it is a great choice. The only problem I ran into is that there are no dual rates for the rudder, which is a slight problem sometimes. Other than that I think it is the perfect first radio for 3D flight. Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Yeh, find yourself a nice Futaba Super 6..
One thing about the transmitter, is that a newb often out grows this item very quickly.. So you may want to think about getting the best TX you can comfortably afford..

Actually I think that it would be fine. I used to fly 3D with no expo or dual rates no problem, and you would be getting that TX cheaper than what I paid for my first Tx. Now I still don't use expo, but dual rates are really handy to have. Makes landing easier...
As long as you have a decent rx, that transmitter would be fine.
