Hi Guys
Looking to get into electrics, nitro guy here. Wow it can be confusing with all the batts and chargers and ESC's and of course which plane to choose and power to use. So I think i have narrowed it down to the SuperZOom 4d as of now lol. I really want to get a EPP plane as i need to practice up on my 3d flying . I have read and read until my eyes hurt , and yes i have used the search button but am still kind of overwelmed with all the choices.
So with this plane could someone please recomend a decent motor option. THis is what i have decided between now unless someone recomends something else
Still undecided on the motor option
Axi-2212-26 ---- -------hobby lobby recomends this one ==Read this is comparable to the hacker a20-22L but is easier on batts??
Hacker-A20-22L -------seems popular
or
Himax-2816-0890 - I did read somewere that someone using this combo and TP 3cell 1320pl , and 25esc, kept having cutout problems after 5 minutes or so.
I think a good 25amp ESC will be good for any of these combos ??
Batteries I got the impression that THunderpower 3cell 1320 power lites are preferred???
The prop was all over the board on what to use but seems that 10X4.7 or 11x4.7 was most used
The charger I was thinking FMA's Cellpro 4s lipo charger seemed to be a good one , with the built in balancer
I notice that most guys at local fly club have the TRITON charger's
THe triton polycharger4 seemed really popular,, but think it may be little cofusing for me without the balancer , and would need to purchase that seperate
As for servo's i think i will go with 4 Hitec 55's
My main concern was what motor option to go with
Is there a retailer that has the motor , plane and servos and maybe even batts that someone can recomend , kind sucks ordering from 5 different stores.
THanks guys
Bob

Atlanta Hobby has a nice selection of all the products you mentioned, I generally prefer a local hobby shop though.
My personal preference is to go with Hacker motors, they are very efficient and very powerful. My Hacker A20-20L pulls my 14oz 3D park flyer out of a hover like a missile. The Hi-Max you listed is going to be heavier than the other 2 motors so I sugegst against it. Hi-Max makes nice motors though and the 2812 series is a closer match in weight to the motors you listed. My Hi-Max 2812-0650 is about 60% as powerful as the Hacker A20-20L. I'd suggest starting with a 10x4.7, the 11x4.7 may pull too many amps.
I use Castle Creations ESC's across the board and yes a 25amp is good for those motors. The Hi-Max you listed is going to be heavier than the other 2 motors so I sugegst against it.
Check out the Astro 109 charger along with the Astro Blinky balancer. It's a great pair and is super easy to use. The charger only requires setting the current of the charge the rest is automated. Triton's are nice chargers, my buddy has 2 of them and they work well, but are a bit more difficult to use and require some setup. They offer more functionality as well (li-po, ni-cd, ni-mh and lead acid charging ability).
TP 3S 1320mah li-po's are great. I have started using the 3S 910mah packs as well since they can handle 20+ amps and are about an ounce lighter. 1 thing to keep in mind with 3D the lighter the better big time. BTW, I reduced flight time by only 30-45 seconds going from 1320's to 910's but flight perfomance improved greatly.
Hobby Lobby seems to suggest acceptable equipment for their planes so keep that in mind. At 15.5oz either the AXI or the Hacker would be fine. If you like the Hi-Max motors looks at the 2812-0850 for that plane, however I still suggest the Hacker.

Pretty well what you're going to order is fine. I have a Himax 2808 in mine but is a little underpowered. Will hover quite well but not much left to pull out vertically. Been thinking of getting the 2812 as Chris mentioned, for a little more poop. The fellow's that was cutting out may have been overpropped. Another good tool to get is a wattmeter, as it will show you how many amps the motor is drawing and can pick a prop accordingly. When you buy a motor , the specs tell you how many amps is recomended for that motor. As long as you don't go over that number you won't hurt the motor. Same goes for the batt. I use the Cellpro as well as the Triton. The Cellpro is plug and play, ballances the cells and fast charges. Hope this helps .
