RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
Hi Jeff,
The market is flooded with 3D planes now and just about every major manufacturer makes them. What size plane are you looking for? This will help us to narrow the suggestions down to models of that size from large international distributors that your local hobby shop may carry. Regards. |
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
The only thing i want in a plane is that its easy to take out in my backyard or park and be able to fly the pants off of it a smallish park flyer type would be the best maybe a profile size foamy somthing on the lines of that would be a bonuse if i could use all my gws gear but that isnt real important oh and somthing and doesnt cost the easrth 100$$ max becuse its only going to get used to learn new areos on hope this helps narrow it down for you and i dont care if its a kit or arf but it got to be smallish nothing big hope this helps and thanks for your time

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
The radical edge 540 looks like a nice plane but shipping to australia would cost me more than the plane itself plus I cant find depron over here so I dont know what to do wish gws made one they would sell like hot cakes over here as no one sells anything like that over here anyother suggestion would be great or does anyone want somthing here in austraila and we can work out a trade or somthing ???

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
Ouch...shipping to Australia. Have you looked for a manufacturer in Australia?
|
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
I kinda like that one from radicalrc. Does any one know of any other ones. The profile planes look to be a bit easer to fix if you have a mishap.

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
why not built a fan-fold plane. planes are free online. and you just use about 10.00 worth of insulation foam. your gws equiptment can power it fine
|
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
I know very little about electrics. It seems that every one uses something different to power them batt motor exc. I have no idea what I need.

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
see part of the problems here in australia are they dont a insulation foam board here like they have in the states and i have looked everywhere for somthing like depron so it look like im doomed lol my friend makes fishtanks and uses about half inch white foam to set them on but it doesnt sand down very well if i can find some good plans i might be able to make somthing out of it so anyone have any good planes ? or would anyone over in the states like to trade a 3d plane for somthing here in australia ?? (( im from missouri just living here for the moment as my wife is from australia )) a trade would be good any takers ? thanks for your help

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
have a look on the 3d flying forum for the thread title 'backyard 3d and video'.
theres a great thread guiding you all through the building and setup of a little 3d electric model that will fly on your gws gear |
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
Am I blind but where is the 3D flying forum at ???[:-]

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
jeffhines13,
Have you investigated SturdyBoard-type materials? They sell the stuff here in office, school or architectural supply shops. It's a layer of (depron) foam laminated between two paper sheets. It's used for signs, posters, models, etc. You have to soak the paper parts off, but you end up with some decent building material for a foam plane. There's some great info on RC Unverse, but if you are interested in electrics, you will find far more over on [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=4]RCGroups.com[/link] Search there on Trident 3D, Foamtana, 3DX, Ultimate Bipe. Lots of stuff in the Foamies section. Good luck. Karl |

RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
Radical RC also sells a Vertigo 3D which hovers awesome and you can fly it in your backyard. The best thing about it is it will fly on a $38 dollar motor and gear drive. Radical RC sells complete packages also.

OK- since no one else has done it - I will mention an inexpensive combo you can do
you need only the blue 1/4" thick foam -some 1/8 x1/4" spruce and some clear duct tape for the model - stick with 300 square in area - make it 30" span and 30" long. done right -it will be under 4 ounces ready for equipment. use the GWS 350 motor and their 5.3 -1 gearbox - 3 mini servos -a mini rx and most importantly two high discharge LiPo cells about 1200 ma. the wing has an overlapped spruce spar - 1/8"1/4" spruce on edge overlap about 8" out this wing is sturdy . use the spruce as a motor stick and a rear fuselage stick the exact profile means nothing - just look at them all and do a neat clean setup . all up weight should be 10 -11 ounces -this will hover nicely on a 10" prop - try a few . here is a pic of one of mine - plans are available for lots of models but the weight is all important - once you hit over 12 ozs -you will work the motor pretty hard to get performance . 3 cells will give instant performance and a hot motor . |
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
I believe cabanestrut2002 mentioned a similar plane and I also believe that Jeff stated that he couldn't find such foam locally.
|
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
ok found blue foam cost about 35$$ a sheet [:@] so thats one step closer now the other big problem is that lipo batterys are not very popular here so they cost the earth any suggestion what to do here ? or should i fork out the 65$$ bucks for a pack and then a nother 150$$ for a charger ? its getting expinsive [:@]
|
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
blue foam is typically 35 bucks a package of sheets - also tho 65 bucks is high for the two cell Lipo batt-- the charger should be only about 25-35 bucks for a two cell type.
look around more before you buy - ask the locals where they get their stuff. |
RE: WANTED PLANE THAT WILL HOVER
I cant ask the locals where there getting there stuff from as there isnt many in australia flying small e-powered aerobatic planes this country r/c is still years behind everyone else at the moment all i use in my gws planes is nickel meteals batts but im still looking for them would anyone want to sell some lipos and a charger ??? if so i would be intrested thanks
