Default Advantage of 2 recievers?

I have noticed a lot of guys flying dual receivers in there aircraft. What is the real advantage of flying with 2 recievers? I can understand 2 batteries ,but 2 recievers? If you get a radio hit or someone shoots you down its going to effect both receivers. I have been flying RC for many years and I cant rememeber one time that I have had a reciever problem. If you fly 2 recievers you might as well have 2 transmitters, because what if your transmitter bites the dust? Just curious........

Mainly it is used in the 35 -40% aircraft to take the servo load off the RX, alot of servo's sucks alot of power, therefore its easier on the system with two. I have not seen many setup that way here, my 33% uses one RX and two batts.

I ran 2 recievers in my 1/3 scale spacewalker, just for reliability reasons... I've never had anythign get to a reciever, including the number of crashes I'ce had over the years, but you never know... However as you said, 2 recievers didnt save the pplane from the radio glitch that killed it... temporarily but still It's going to be a while before that one flys again...

Also, if one reciever goes down then you still have partial control of the plane- probably enough to prevent the plane from being written off .

You have partial control only if you correctly seperated the flight controls between the two receivers. You also need to have a way to kill the engine available on both receivers due to have long these gas engines can fly on a tank of gas. Say if your lost throttle control of the engine in flight with the engine at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. The engine might be able to outlast the onboard battery according to how much fuel you carry onboard.

On the aforementioned spacewalker I put one aileron on each Rx, one Elev half on each Rx, Rudder and cut-off switch on one Rx, throttle on the other... I think that is the best universal system...
