The plans are not the type that you can build from scratch on, they do not have outlines of every part.

I would suggest forking out for the kit, and tracing the wooden parts before you glue it together, this is what I have done.

Arnie,
Just shell out the dough for the kit. The plans are really bad, unless you can read Japanese. Most of the time the plans skip over three or four steps and like it was said earlier there is not a true parts diagram. It is lazer cut anyway and the parts really do fit together like a puzzle.

I ruined mine yesterday as a nylon clevis failed during a low rolling pass at full throttle. Oops!! Ordered another one first thing after getting home.

I love the plane so much that when i finish this one I might buy one and build it just as a spare!!

i agree, the plans are a bit difficult to fowollow, but the parts fit excellent. The plane almost falls together as long a you read ahead and pay close attention to the pictures.

Sorry to hear about you loss, but im glad to hear that you shook it off and ordered another.I hate to build, but i burried the hatchet and built one.Its almost done, and i just got my decal package from kirbys.Wow,they did a great job!Can you share some of the positive and negative qualities of the plane.I am very excited to finish it and fly it.Also,do fly 3d,and if so,how does it handle.Well, thank you for time, and again, sorry to hear about you loss

vertical
I was not able to get more than 20 flights on the plane before my header into the deck. The plane will do whatever you tell it to. It is very precise and can carve out some beautiful lines. It rolls very fast and you do not need the full reccomended travel on the ailerons, at least not for the maiden. Snaps the best I have ever seen. Blenders, spins, and hover were very nice. The greatest asset of the plane was its slow speed handling, it really did float very nicely for such a precise machine. It really is an awesome all around performer.

The only negative was a slight snapping tendency when given full deflection on the elevater while traveling at decent speed. My elevater halves were not perfectly aligned so that could have been the problem. I was going to try to correct for the snaping by bending the halves straight and adding a little up trimo each aileron. Actually, I did both. Too bad I forgot to push the silicone tube over the clevis at 2:00 AM and didn't check them till my Freestyle had carved out a pit in the dirt!! I wish I could tell you if it slved the problem, but i'll have to wait till I get the other one done to see.

You'll love the plane, just make sure you do a pre flight inspection like we are supposed to do!!

Mine came out at only 4 1/4" lb with a ys .63. What are you going to power it with?

Hi Shadow,
Im picking up my ys 63 for it tonight!Im hoping mine comes outlike yours(4 1/4 pounds).I tried to build it ultra light by pinning up the wing and using wood glue.I even ordered carbon fiber wheel pants from stans fiber tec to be a little lighter.I will know in a little over a week what it will weigh.takes me a little longer to build with my work schedule and all.I wont have the same prob you did with the pins as you did because i have the mk ball bearing clevises for mine.I thoulght it was going to be a good plane from all the hype in the other threads,so i spent a little extra on this one.I know what ya mean,at 3 in the morning,ya cant see strait, and all ya can think of is how low your gonna tork it the next day!Im hopin its a decent pattern type plane with good hover capibalities. My biggest hang up is that h9 ultra paint sucks, and if i dont clear coat it say good bye to my nice paint finish.Ys 20/20 will eat right through ultra paint,so now i have to find an autobody shop to spray my cowl and wheel pants.Did you do the sceme on the box?

I did do the shceme on the box. Transparent red and white. I totally agree with you on that crappy ultra paint. The coolpower 30% turned it into mush. You will love its pattern ability. It is hard to describe exactly what it felt like while flying, but it would really fly very smooth and slow when I wanted it to, almost like a much larger plane would do. Then again it would spin and tumble with attitude. Hover was very smooth and controlable.

Work sucks when you gotta build!!!!
I have to do mine all over again. Should be much quicker though as I don't have to try to figure out the crappy instructions. I think I might try for 4 lb on the next one. Don't know how, but i gotta improve on what i did before.

It looks like you have the same respect for the designers as I do. I am amazed at how they thought of everything, and how everthing on the plane comes out perfect if you trust the structures. I changed only 2 parts on the plane and both times it screwed them up.

Let me know how yours turns out, I do want to know.

i did mine in the blue scheme, turned out pretty good,i can prob sen pic i a day or so of the stage im at now.The graphics from kirbys look great.i just finished covering, now ive got to put it back together.the kit fits together great, the only thing that turns me off is the wood is very soft, you have to be very careful if you want to retain you smooth finish. When you do the next one,i bet youll carve the blocks for the vertical fin out of one piece of balsa instead of laminateing those 3 pieces together!i made the mistake of doing it there way and there is no way i can sand out the glue joints,o well,it still looks great! What servos did you use?

I used four hitec HS-475's and one HS-55 for throttle. If I could go back I would have gotten 2 HS-225's for the ailerons. Those new 475's are only $17 center really well and have 70 oz torque @ 6V. If you don't already have one get a 6V NIMH battery from radicalrc.com. It really brings those servos to life, and is like 1.5 oz lighter than the stock 4.8V NiCad. I have found that the APC 13x4W works best for my YS 63 and the freestlyle.

I would think about using the transparent blue on the next one, but the wing from my crashed freestyle is in perfect shape, so i might reuse it.

Its funny how no one here has mentioned the Cap#### 50. I can't bring myself to say it as they might arise from the depths. Those monions find every crack they can to try to sell those things!!

Now that I think about it I should have gotten the BB clevis's that Frederick from singapore hobbies tried to sell me.

I would send you pics of mine with before and after the header photos, but it looks like my file size is too large. Too many pixels or something.

Si,
Dave's right. i really didn't like mine. I am sure it was a ok up and down model but I found for 3d stuff it was a bit aggressive and would bite all over the place. The rudder to elevator couple in high alpha knife edge was a nightmare. I reckon a 60-90 size one would be the ****.
Having said all of this I am just about to place an order with Pilot so if you really want one it would take about a week to ten days for them to arrive. Just let me know.
Its true that I lost my Extra at hastings, but don't worry I found it again soon after. It was the great big lump of broken red fiberglass sticking out the floor right in front of me

OH NO thats criminal !

Anyway back on topic...

All this talk Shadow about the Seduction is making me think I should get one to try it, then I can post in an informed way about the diff between it and the Ca&^$%$ 50....

But then Ali pops in with those comments... and well ... I cant ignore them... I do know that he knows what hes talking about.... thats my problem...

What say you ?

I think that would be awesome archie. I would like for someone to compare the two madels together, but i am not sure it should be you. You do sell that neat unnamed plane.

Good idea though. I would consider getting a ####### 50, but it would be very similar to a Freestyle so I think I would get bored. I need some variety.

I knew you would find a way in Archie. Your good my friend.
