I'm looking to buy a new plane for this engine, does the OS 1.60FX have enough power for the Dave Patrick Edge 540, or perhaps the world models extra?
The world models claim unlimited vertical with this engine.

I don't know the specs on either plane you listed, but the 160 provides unlimited vertical on my 11.5lb Sig Cap. Just saying that it has unlimited doesn't tell the whole story though. One of the ways I like to show off how over powered the plane is to take off at 1/4 throttle, pull to vertical as soon as I leave the ground, then nail the throttle and accelerate straight up. It does so with authority.
To make a long story short, if the airframe in question is close to that in weight, you'll have power to spare. HTH.

That is enough motor for both planes if you want to fly sportsman IMAC. I would suggest a moki 2.1 for all out performance. NOthing against the O.S. 1.60 its a great motor but I think its just out of its weight range.

I had a OS 160FX on a DP Extra (first batch). For most flying it is more then enough. If hovering is your thing, it will pull it out of a hover but not real fast. One good thing is it's nice and light and the plane flies very well. My Extra is 13.5 lbs with the FX160 on it.

I've decided to go with hanger 9s edge 540, 78'' wing span but relatively light at around 11-12 lbs. With carbon fiber landing gear and push rods as well as a lighter battery pack i shuold be able to cut a few more ounces off of that.
thanks for your input guys....

Not to confuse you, but the Lanier Edge is the perfect plane for an OS 160 and an all around better performer. The H9 edge is decent 3D performer but it is uncomfortable to fly overall . If that makes any sense.

Get the DP! it will weight the same as the 72" planes and have a wing loading around 23 oz/sq'. It's like flying a profile fun-fly! Skerlock has this combo and it does it all. Yes it will pull out from a hover slowly but what a charm to fly with that light loading. Should be about 2 lbs lighter than the World Extra (also a very nice plane).

Actually i have flown the lanier edge and it flie a little heavier than my H9 edge. My H9 edge has plenty of power with the saito 180 (about 10,200 with 16*8 APC and 30%) so the mor powerful OS 160 should be awesome.
