2 X Capacity - Example: 1000mah charge at 2 amps, 1500mah charge at 3 amps and so on. 2C should give you a thirty minute charge time. Of course you can trickle charge.

Yes, trickle charge the first time.

You could cycle it a couple of times after for good measure.
Dont charge on auto mode if using a supernova

your leads wont take 2amps let alone 3
i fast charge my packs at 1 amp max, my fast charger can do both types of cells up to 9 cell packs. peak chargers arnt much money these days. well worth the money

also will my standard switch handle 6volts?

your swith can take many hundredes of volts, just not current.

think of current as water in a pipe, you can only force so much water down a small pipe. the leads on flight packs are quite thin and cant take that ammount of current. the plug is even worse.
on 1.5amps the leads start to warm up, thats why i stay at one amp. the switch dosnt take the current anyway because the charge lead is soldered directly to the batt lead.
btw.. heres what happens when you dont adjust your charging amps from car racing the night before and charge at 5amps

ok, lets explaine why 6v makes your servos faster...
the voltage is your potential.. the higher the voltage the more push you can have, with 6v you have more force on the current than at 4.8v therefore your servos can use that voltage to force more current through the motor and make it work faster and harder, however, a 4.8v pack will last longer than a 6v one because it's not pushing as much current ( so check your plane more often ) the wires and hardware in the plane will easily cope with the current 6v will produce under normal loads. 5 stalled servos might heat things up a bit tho.
get a peak charger that can do both ni-cad and hydrides, up to 9-10 cells is good too incase you go electric. something like the Hi-tec charger would be good. does your glow starter too.
as for discharge, dont discharge the flight packs at more than one amp. the cells can take it.. the wires cant

slow charge it at c/10 or 165 ma for 14-16 hours, the cells are new and unbalanced, if you charge it at 1 amp for the first charge you run the risk of overcharging cells in the pack. also nimh cells take a few charge/discharge cycles before they reach full capacity. and as said above dont charge/discharge at more than 1 amp. sanyo specs say max charge input should be 1C or 1650ma, and to check capacity discharge at 330ma to 1 volt per cell. in other words if your charger can discharge, do it at 300 ma and set the cutoff at 5 volts. heres a link to the PDF specs of that cell http://sanyo.wslogic.com/pdf/pdfs/HR-AAU.pdf

Well the feild charger for 10 hours will be OK if you have a trickle charge setting...
Set it on trickle and let it go!
if you set it to peak charge.. it will charge at the higher rate...
Not so good for a 1st charge.
