Default Hangar 9 Katana 50. Which engine?

Hey guys Im new to the forum and I have orderd a Hangar 9 Katana 50 from my local hobby shop. Im having a hard time decideing on which engine to put on it. Thing is I have a new in box YS 61 Long side exhaust but i dont have any exhaust for it and looks like they can be hard to find. Since its a new plane i wanted something on it that would look good and have plenty of power to pull out of hovers. Some kind of emergency power you know lol. I have looked at some of the Saito engines and i hear they have great reviews. I dont know much about the YS motor I have. I have read a saito .82 is a good option but that it would pull the plane out of a hover but not that quickly. Im looking for some sugestions engine wise and what type of prop and exhaust should i use if i choose to use the YS 61.
I aprecieate any input here. Thanks

think a YS 61 is less thrust then a Satio 82 might be wrong there ...

I think there is like a 25 page thread alreayd on this airframe also

Saito 82 would be my pic, but I have not read the thread mentioned.

The YS is set up to run 11 and 12 inch props which arent going to do any good on the Katana. That YS is a pretty specific animal intended for 1980's pattern airplanes. The current trend with scale airplanes and big cowls need an engine that is set up to run more dia and less pitch, this is why 4 strokes are so popular with this type of airplane.

I would think the Evolution 60NX small case would be perfect for it, with a 13x4 or 14x4 prop.

I put a DL-20 in my Hanger-9 Katana 50 that I repaired from another fliers minor crash.Maybe a little overkill but balenced out fine and if you want to go up it will go up.LOL.
First owner had 9 OZ of weight in the nose of the Katana-50 and a OS.55.Does not have much prop clearence but so far OK. I did put on a little larger wheels.

BCCHI,

Could you post how to get the DLE-20 to fit? I want to put this motor in my H9 Katana and it looks like you have to cut the engine box back or cut a big hole in it for the carb to go through. Also, is there enough room after that for the supplied fuel tank to fit? I do plan on changing the pull-pull rudder servo to the rear of the plane and change the elevator mini servos to standard size for balance purposes. It looks like my electric setup now will be almost the same weight as this engine with everything and fuel. Any info and guidance would be helpful as I don't want to purchase this engine if I can't make it fit and balance. Thanks.

Dle 20 is too long. You will need surgery. Rather if u want gas, then the rcgf 15cc is a better fit. Someone else can chime in on quality. I put a saito fg-17 on mine(weight similar to dle-20 & rcgf 15), and the weight was perfect.

I have two dle 20s and theyre good engines, but they would be too long.

I tryed a SC 53 and thought it was a bit slow so replaced it with a 75 super tiger and had it flew awsome.

I just bought this plane and it came with a dle-20 do you think I have enough power to pull out of a hover? I really appreciate it.
