Quick question for the pro's. When hovering down low do you keep the plane from torkin' with aileron, or do you use flaperones to keep the plane tilted less than 90 degrees to keep it from torkin'.

I have a 29% edge and don't have the confidence to tork low with it but would like to get it lower. When I lower it in a tork roll, sometimes it really wraps up and it starts to freak me out.

So is the answer: a) More practice with ailerons or
b) set it up with flaperons or
c) other(Explain)

You will probably find that if you have the nose just shy of 90 degrees it will stop torquing. You may have to hold a little right aileron. Before you try to TR it down low try and get it to hover down low.
Once its in a stable hover, pull the throttle back a little to start it backing down. It will immediately need more up elevator to hold it in the hover because of the power you just took away from it. Once it slides down a little add power again and release a little of that extra elevator you just added.

Its kinda hard to type it out but thats basically how I do it.

WHen you are hovering a plane you will find that the greatest torque comes with the input of throttle. You have to counter the torque with the ailerons and be soft with the inputs. You will also need lots of aileron authority. Most of these guys are cutting the ailerons on in close to the fuse.

Thanks for the replies Wayne and Bean.

Bean, I know you had an Aero-works 29% edge. (Been to your website.) Could you tell me where you had your cg located reference the wing tube. 3D rates(degree's of throw) and if you set up flaperones, spoilerons for any 3d maneuvers.

I am learning slow but want to learn right with a little good advise to cut the corners.

Well to be honest I don't have much of a clue about the CG. I started with it in front of the tube about 1/2" and then I just start moving it back until it feels right. Same with the throws. I am fairly wide open on my ailerons and rudder in all modes but I dial the elevator back. I do the same thing with my Radiocraft. I have never checked the CG on it after the initial set up. But it is way back now. It isn't really important what others do. Set your plane up as spec in the manual and then start dialing it in for the way that works for you. Everyone likes things a a bit different. As far as your CG, get the bird neutral in inverted flight at cruise speed. As far as rates and throws go, set your low rate so that you can land it and fly it without it getting out of hand or snappy. THen set your high rate for all you can get. Get use to it and then see what makes it feel better.
