I am getting ready to assemble my Ultimate and have some questions.
I was going to put 8411's in it like they call for but have heard that Hitec has some good high torque servos that will work and much cheaper. First, do they? and second, are they?
I have never used hitec and have seen some not-so-good post on here about them.
I don't want to start a JR vs Hitec vs futaba vs (type in your brand) war. I just want some feed back on how Hitec servos are.
If I use the hitec will I still need the match boxes that I bought?
It is alot of airplane and I don't want to go cheap just to go cheap but I have had some 8411's go full lock on the bench and burn up so there is no sure thing!
Any help?

If you go with Hitec be sure to get the 5945s and a programmer to match them. They are less expensive than the JRs. Go with what you are most comfortable with.

I am a hobby store owner, and can get anything at cost. Price aside...the kit calls for 5 match boxes...yes 5. So I broke the ranks and tried the 5945's this time with the programmer. 8411's have always been about a 20-40 flight servo for me, and on my ultimate with the 5945's, I have more flights then that already, and not any slop what so ever. I am pleased with the hitechs...and I did save money at the same time.
Now...the plot thickens. JR 8611's will be out soon. They are a stronger gear train, same case size, but 220 at 4.8 and 260 at 6.0. That is the first real attempt by anyone to make a giant scale type servo and keep it affordable. They will be the same price as the 8411's are currently, and the 8411's are going to drop in price. My store has presold 140 of these already....I expect that others have the same numbers. That servo could be pretty tough to pass up....but I do like the hitechs a lot.

I have 3 JR 8611 servos on the rudder of my H9 Ultimate. This is the best servo the giant scale world has ever seen! They are much tighter than the 8411, and super powerful. The case size in the 8611 is slightly larger than the 8411. It will fit in most standard size pockets, just a little tighter. I moved all 3 servos to the tail of the Ultimate, and I think the set up is awesome!

8411's get sloppy after hard use regardless of set up quickly...my magic number is 20-40. I am talking slop around center...where you get small amounts of what looks like flutter in flight. It just gets worse and worse till you have to replace them. A fact of life with 8411's....Horizon replaces them without question though.

I'm astore owner too,and I use Hitec. But I use the match box. I've never really got the hang of the programmer from Hitec. Will use the new JR on rudder. Flying the h9 ulitmate now.

Boy! What a response. I have never used Hitec and the programmer seems to be a little high. By the time I buy the programmer I have added 10 to 15 bucks to the cost of each servo.
The 8611 has my attention.
Brian, You say you have 3 of them. How and where did you get them. Are they out yet or are you one of those connected guys? I guess there is a little savings because you only need 3 for the rudder.
Nick, What are you getting for your 8611's I may need some. I will be starting my Ultimate this weekend. When are they telling you they will be shipping?
Can you set up the ailerons with just two match boxes, (one per side)?

Street price of the 8611 is going to be $114.99. I have heard that they will be released mid Nov. some time. I also expect the price of the 8411 to drop after the release of the 8611. I would guess if you use 2 matchboxes for the wings, you would have to power each one with a battery. The instructions say if using more than two servos on each one, they need a power source. I have 4 on the wings and 1 on the rudder. It is a few more bucks to spend, but the set up was a breeze.
I am also taking pre orders for the 8611 servos. If anybody would like to back order them with me, please private message me.
Thanks
Brian

I asked the same question about one matchbox for each side in another thread.Mike McConville replied and said it would be fine and would not need a seperate power source for each side.I decided to go with 4 anyway to simplify setup at the feild.I used two Futaba 5050 servos on the rudder with a floating bellcrank system.I am using a matchbox on the rudder strictly as a power bus. That way I can power the rudder servos seperate from the rest.
