Would you rather have an apple or an orange? What I'm saying is that the planes are VERY different from one another. While I have not flown the UCD, I'm guessing that the Katana flies much more like a larger SA 3D plane, and the UCD flies more like a profile fun fly. The UCD would probably be a better 'floater' with a lighter wing loading but would fly more like an over-powered leaf than an SA plane. I'm not knocking the UCD...no flames please!
I fly the GSP Katana 140 and really like it...I'm sure I'd like the UCD also.

TT2, I am having a similar dilemma. What is SA? I want to learn 3d. The largest plane I've had is an 80" Aeroworks 300L, which was a floater. I love the look of the Katana, and I have read your very thorough review, however, I am still unsure. Is the Katana a correct choice for learning 3d, or do I need a floater with a lighter wing loading? Thanks for your help!

Thanks TT2 I have read your articles on the katana and thats the same one Im thinking of buying do you know if the wings have been corrected and how much throttle do you use to hover it with the os 160fx. IM not new to 3d just trying to get better I owned a funtana it seemed alright just trying to decide which would do more 3d the katana or the ucando. Do you think the saito 180 would do better than the os 160. Thanks

SA = Scale Aerobatic
I'd say that for learning 3D the UCD may be a better choice...but for getting used to larger scale 3D aircraft the Katana has the edge because it flies very similar to one.
I love the 160fx on the Katana...hovers about half throttle. The Saito requires expensive fuel (30%) to get the best performance...The 160fx runs great on 15%. The Saito will guzzle MUCH more of the expensive fuel during a flight, so you are essentially increasing your wing loading while depleting your fuel budget. The Katana balances PERFECTLY with three servos in the tail, a 160fx / pitts muffler / perry pump on the nose with a CG mounted tank. My 160fx spins a Mezjlik 18x6 CF prop at 9200 rpm even when slightly on the 'rich' side...I'm sure that I could get 9600-9800 out of it if I were to lean it down more. GOBS of power...and more than the Saito could provide.
