I have an older OS Max 40 four stroke engine. I have not used the engine yet but I am told that power is similar or slightly higher than the newer OS FS30 four stroke. I am looking to put it in a smaller, trunk sized ARF cabable of 3d or extreme aerobatics. I want to practice hovering and torque rolling, etc.
I was looking at the Sportman Aviation Waco 30 Bipe, the modeltech extra 300, the world models sukhoi 30. I am not sure any of these are capable of doing true 3d. I already own a tower uproar and tower extra special 40, but these are both more like fun fly planes. ANy other thoughts or suggestions?? Thanks.

I was looking at that plane too from tower. I am kinda leaning towards the waco bipe because it looks really cool too. Keep the suggestions coming.

like you, im looking for a plane to put my .40 two stroke in. Im settling for the model tech magic, but finding one for a .40 4 stroke will be harder. I looked at that tequila thing and the model tech extra. But none of those you listed (i didnt see the waco bipe yet though) really arent 3D planes. Could you set up a link to that Waco?

I don't have the exact link for the waco at the moment. Just go to www.hobbypeople.net and look under ARFs under 40 size. It is the sportsman aviation bipe. It says it is specifically designed for a 40 four stroke. it comes in two colors. Also comes in a larger size. Its pretty reasonably priced.

Is this it?? The waco definately isnt a 3D plane, but id still get it coz it looks pretty cool. If its designed for your engine, unlike many other planes, id go for it.

Yes, that's it.
You are right, it really isn't 3d but it does look cool. It says it is designed for the magnum 40 four stroke. I have the OS max 40 four stroke but I am sure it will fit fine. Just not sure I want the bipe or a true 3d plane.

At the scale you are looking at, 3D planes = Funfly Planes. I won't bother with all the lowdown on why larger 3D planes can depart from the funfly design.
With your setup, my primary concern would be weight. If your engine is good for .5 HP at 10K RPM (just a guess), swinging a APC11x5 will get you about 5lbs of thrust. Really need 50% headroom to safely hover and 100% is better. That means the total weight of your plane with fuel should weigh in the 2.5lbs to 3.5lbs range. That may be a hard ticket to pull off. If you want to hover, I'd start looking for the lightest fun fly type plane you can find and not worry about how it looks.

you are probably right. I already have a few funfly planes- I have a tower extra special 40 and a tower uproar 60. I may just pick out something that does more scale like aerobatics rather than something that does 3d- starting to think that little waco bipe is better and better. Thanks.

i think, now that you changed your mind about the 3D plane, you look at the Model tech Extra 300. Its a good price and includes everything, even a pilot, etc.
