[8D]Hey All, we love our Flip 3D so much [X(] - we just had to try a larger one built around the sweet / strong BME-50. I am not a good scratch builder and do not have the time , so our good friend and flying buddy Greg , [email protected] took on the task. Well he is a real good builder and knows how to keep em lite and strong. The BIG FLIP is almost done and with a wing span of 84 inch , it weighs just 11 lbs almost RTF ! We are hoping it will be 12 to 13 lbs totally RTF ! It should be mighty sweet for sure !!!!! Here are some pics. Keep havin FUN !! Rod

Hey Rod
If you guys like the Flip you really need to try a Hype 3D. I have both with not a lot of time on either but the Hype is just an awesome plane.
What engine are you using on the stock Flip?
Look forward to seeing some pictures of your project.
Good luck

Ramrod, I am in the process (fumbling) of trying to figure out how to up scale a scratch built UCD. So far I think I have to go 38% to accomodate a 3W 24 gasser. That should put me at 1420 sq. in. wing area resulting in an app. 90" wing and 106" fuse length. Do you think I could hook up with Greg via E-mail so I could pick his brain? Thanks, Joe

I was also thinking of building something like that. Base up on the construction of a 3w extrafun. It is very light Will you change the external look of your UCD?? I have build my own version of it and it is much nicer. If you want to see some examples just PM me.

Rod, Sorry for the delay in responding, I really appreciate the info. Hope Greg is a patient man, I may drive him nuts. I have to get my list of questions in order. How far is it to Whitehall neighbor? If its not too far I would like to see your project. It looks great in the pics. Thanks again, Joe

Guys out here in Southern California has been building 86" U Can Dos for some time and powering them with DA50, BME50 and Brison3.2. It's a cheap and easy build, and a great plane to fly. Do a search here on RCU, the plane is called "Halftime".

Dk, I searched "Halftime" a couple different ways and there is one post about a DA50 on three different scaled up models posted by Airbike out of Walnut, Ca. Is that the post you referred to? Didn't see any mention of a scaled up U Can Do. Any other info? Thanks, Joe

Joe,
If you found the thread where Dan writes about this plane, with a picture of three of them in the pitts, and me commenting on the wings still being on these planes, you've found it. I just went looking for this thread myself, not a search, just looking in different forums going back some ways, and I didn't find it.

Joe,
Yep, that's the thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11...tm.htm#1150869
The original builder and maker of the templates, Ron Cash, has more fun with this plane than any other of any size, that he has flown, because of hte following: 1. If crashing it he won't loose a fortune, probably has a back up ready; 2. It recovers like the .60-.90 size UCD and has no snapping tendency when flying out of 3D; 3. It is just a great, cheap, cheap to fly, easy to see 3D funfly plane.
I just lost my second DiablotinXL after 12 minutes of flying RIP (I sold my first one) and I was going to build something like this, but I just struck a deal where I will end up with my 3rd DiablotinXL in the next month or so.

Rod, about an hour away, I'm in Clarks Summit. The reason I asked is that there are two more Whitehalls in Pa. One in Alleghenny and one in Adams county. Talked to Greg, very informative. I appreciate it. If I can get out from under my current work load maybe someday I'll drop by to see your project and meet you guys. Thanks, Joe

Hey Guys,
That looks really bad *****. I love my flip so much I was going to build an 80 inch version with an MDS 2.18 but yours is even better. I put all the numbers in to my Real Flight G2 for 3 planes. The stock, 57 inch an 80 inch and also a 100 inch. I liked the 80 inch a lot. I stuck the numbers on a few different planes and they all fly the same. I chose the Edge 540 just for looks.
If you have plans for this plane, I would love to have a set. I hope you do dump the covering scheme though. I have covered two Flips in a red white and blue art deco/retro style and everyone at our field loves them. The plane underneath looks way better than the covering.
I am building a third Flip right now with a Saito 100. I was wondering if anyone out there has done this. If so, did you center mount the tank and use a pump or keep it in the forward location? How much weight was required to get the C.G. close to the rearward 150 mm? What prop works best with this combo? Did you have any trouble with an inverted engine mounting as far as it running right and starting easily?
Whew, I'm full of questions aren't I.
Keep us posted, your project really is cool. I want one.

Ramrod. Have I seen you at Tuscarora? You look familiar. I believe you fly a super stearman. If I have it right you experienced a problem with the elevator control horn last time I was there.
