Default UCD 46 or 60 for learning?

Hey

Ive been looking at the UCD for some time and I read a lot on the forums and as far as I can see, the 46 is a better plane for 3D and has less issues.
1. I read that the 60 has firewall issues, does the 46 have those aswell?
2. Will the 46 with a Saito 72 beat the 60 with a Saito 91 in 3D performance?
3. Which one will be better for learning 3D on?
4. I looked at the specs of the OS .50SX and they are better than the Saito 72. I know that you want a 4 stroke for 3D but will I be better off with the OS?
5. What about those flutter problems with the wings on the 46? Is there any way to avoid them?

Thanks

Edit: I read a little more and now I found this tailheavy issue with the 46 sized UCD. Now the Saito 91 comes into play. Which one should I get? 91 or 72.. the 91 is only about $10 more.

Default RE: UCD 46 or 60 for learning?

Hey
First off I'm using a saito 80 in my .46 UCAN and for me it's the perfect combo, now I'm sure other people will have other opinions, But let me give you a little advice, You can get on this forum and read and read and get a lot of information about the UCAN's .46 and .60, but in the end it really depends on how you like to fly,and what you want out of your setup, everybody likes something different, that's what makes this forum so great you can take alittle bit from each persons experience and come up with your on, Now for me I have tried 8 engines on the .60 size, and after 4 unfix-able UCAN's, two bad crashes that I fixed, and the 3 that I fly now, The best engine and plane combo as far as the .60 size is the Webra 120 with the pump and a pitts muffler, Now I had to go through hell trying to find this perfect marriage and I'm sure there is some people that want agree but then again were talking about what YOU LIKE,,,, and the reason for the very bad crashes was I did a lot of modifying, and changing a few things around, and some did not work at all but that's what this hobby is all about, well for me it is,,, So back to your question I can only tell you what is a awesome setup for me as far as the .46 is concerned and that is a saito 80, with 605's all around cept throttle( anyone you have left over that is reliable will work fine for that) note they don't make the 605's anymore so you can use the 645's, but there are a lot of LHS that still carry the 605's, So take your .46 and and try a few different things with it, you will know when you hit that sweet spot... Good luck...

Firewall issues.
The only real issue is the need to add a lot of right thrust. I have about 1/4" gap behind the left side of the motor mount and it finally travels vertically true. Just have to play with it.
I dont know about the 46 size but the .60 size with a .91 or bigger will do anything you need it to do as far as 3D goes. Mine does tight waterfalls, nice blenders once I got the throws maxed out on high rates. Still trying to get a good elevator, wings really want to rock bad and the plane wont hardly descend until it tipstalls. Im working on flaperon and spoileron setup to cure that. A pro from the field today flew mine to try out my new mix settings. In the hands of a pro these planes are really something.

Tell you what. A buddy has the flip 3D which is a 40 size plane with a .70 four stroke. That is a 3D machine too, really performs well.

Well, I don't have a UCD, but here's the talk at the flying field: in the past month, we have had 3 UCD crashes....2 60's and 1 46. The cause of all the crashes was flutter during high speed passes. This airplane was not designed for high speed operation. There is one fellow out there that has 4 of these and loves every one. Good luck. Just my .02
