New Fiberclassics Yak unveiled at Joe Nall
Did anyone who attended the Joe Nall fly-in get any pictures of the new Fiberclassics YAK 55. Neat looking plane. HUGE!!!!! I understand Quique is flying a Yak at the TOC this year, though not the Fiberclassics. If this turns out to be true I'll bet a dozen manufacturers have one this time next year. Andreas from Fiberclassics had some very interesting insight into this design. Wings stab and thrustline are very close in line making for a very neutral design and the fuse is very tall right at CG providing excellent knife edge characteristics. Please post your pictures if you have any.

Yes, Quique will be flying a Yak
Yes,
Quique will be flying a Yak 54 that he designed. He said that he designed it and it would have a built up fuse, and I assume sheeted foam wings and tail. It will be around 39% and he said that it should be the same basic size as the Pl Prod Extras that he is flying. The Yak looks like a cool plane, especially the 55M that is in the picture. They remind me of a Sukhoi and an Edge 540 combined.

New Fiberclassics Yak unveiled at Joe Nall
Rob,
I believe that this is a Yak 55, but the newer M model. Back in the 1980's, Yakovlev designed the first Yak 55, that had a bubble canopy. I belive that somewhere around 1999, I'm not sure exactly the date, they revamped this plane and added the turtledeck, and added a few other features to enhance the performance and clean up it's looks. I may be completely wrong on this one, but that canopy looks too short and the fuselage length beehind te cockpit looks a little too long to be a Yak 54.

Yak 55SP
This is the SP version. It has a bit more power, turtle deck and composite rudder and elevators. It is based on the 55M.
My friend Mike Breen and I have been working on this design for about a year and are going to kit it in 100cc and 150cc size airframe. It will be the more affordable wood & foam construction as seen in Carden, Godfrey, Aeroworks, Radiocraft etc.
This design cought my eye as the Extras and CAPs were getting old and the centerline surfaces/thrust line and long tail arm seemed to be working in the pattern world. A bonus is the LARGE scale control surfaces that will make it like the Freestyle/pattern hybrids.
Regards
Bill

Camel65, any chance of producing a smaller version of the plane you are working on? I have been dying for a Sukhoi or Yak in the 80" range but no one makes one that I can find. What's the wingspan on your 100cc version? Ohio R/C had one but is now out of business...
I've considered designing my own 25-30% Sukhoi SU-26M from scratch (I already have the documentation), but I just haven't had the time to work on it. The SP-55 looks like it might be a better plane to model if I can find a doc pack for it (I like the longer tail moment as well)...

snsmith, check out www.flairproducts.co.uk
They have a sweet Yak 55, I would love someday. I think its more scale than aerobatic.

Yak 55SP
Just so all of you know.
The airplane in the picture is a Yak 55SP.
Check out this link if you want to see pics of the full-scale.
http://www.russianaeros.com/sp55mproduct.htm
What a SWEET airplane.
It was only using one Volz servo on each aileron and two on the rudder.
It had a DA-150 and weighed aprox. 38-39 lbs according to Fiberclassics.
I want one!

I like that big, fat cowl. I'll bet it makes a lot of drag for nice, slow controllable downlines and other fun stuff.

Yep a great looking Plane.
I talked to Jason after he flew it. and he said that the DA with full pipes was good power for it but not up to T.O.C. power.
After seeing it fly and hover,( it needed full power to pull out of the hover slowly)
So I guess that big round cowl eats up lot of power.
I'm thinking about a 3W 200 for the one on order.
