well i have two in about 10 to 11 pound planes. one is the great planes geebee. and the other is a sig rascal 110. not ment to 3 d but they hover torque roll. so i would say don't go over 11.1/2 pounds both planes hover at half throttle. had in hangar 9 edge 540 it was ok hovered at 1 click over half on 30% fuel and apc 16/8. i would say you mite pull a little heavier plane with like a apc 17/6 but speed mite not be very good.

I would say max about 13 or 14 pounds with the prop he said. Remember you're using that 30% heli fuel. I used a gallon on my 91S. Really brings it to life, but only a gallon, I later went down to 15% after that one. It's just not the same
. ut anyways the engine lasts longer with the 15%. It's gonna be very NOT EASY to come down to 15% after trying out 30%[8D]. Anyways, what airplane did or do you have in mind for that 180?

My H9 edge at 12# was all I would want on the 180 for 3D. Was using 30 % and tryed a lot of different props. On hot days it didn't have enough. (90s) 18x6 pro zinger was the best thrust. had to us cline reg. to get enough fuel in the 180 to work the 18x6. cline added about 500 rpm

On my Saito 180 on my H9 edge which is 12lbs. I had decent performance. I could hover at a little over half throttle and have plenty of pulling power. This was on cool power 15% and an APC 16*8 which was turning between 9300 and 9500. According to horizon hobbies this was about right. I went to 30% heli and was turning between 9800 and 10000. I had awesome performance. Well a bearing locked up in the motor from rubbing the backplace and making little aluminum shavings so i had to break the motor down. When i put it back together i forgot to put the gasket between the crankcase and the cylinder. It actually doesn't really need it because there is a skirt on the cylinder that is a snug fit down into the case. Anyway i didnt realize that i had made this mistake so when i fueled up the next time with 15% my tach read 10700. I though that my tach was bad so i borrowed one and it read between 10650 and 10750. I guess that removing the cylinder gasket up the compression quite a bit. I do have to run a little rich to keep the RPM down but with an 18*6 i shouldnt have any problem. I probably have 50 flights with this setup and i have plenty of power and so far no problems. But only do this if you are not worried about messing up a motor. I think with this setup, which could be hard on the motor would pull even a 15 lb. airplane no problem. I would think with this setup the Chip Hyde Double Vision or Cap X either one would be great airplanes. that is just my $.02.

is this the single 1.80 or twin, because I have been thinking about putting the saito 1.80 twin in my next smaragd freestyle.

I took my 180 off my 12# edge and put it on a 10 1/2# fun world 3D. Now thats the kind of power to weight I like. If you get it trouble on a low hover you can yank it out.

but then, it's only 200g heavier than a ys 1.60. Then you don't have the tuned pipe, lesser vibration problems being twins and more torque.
