Here was my baby. Great Planes Cap 232 .40 wing span 58 1/2" total weight 5.75lbs. YS 63 for power, 600mh batt. pack. Hayes 10oz tank. JR Stan BB 517 on elevator, JR premium sport 531 on rudder, Hiteh 85 on throttle, Hitech 225 on alierons. Magnum spinner.
This plane bit the dust on maiden voyage. I bought this kit back in 2000, didn't built it until 2001. Come to fight out, the CG had an adjustment issue I didn't know about that wasn't in the manuel. I had my CG way to far aft. Also I didn't have enough alieron throw to correct the roll once it lifted off. I should have went by my instinct and used as much throw as I could get but I listened to the book, and I didn't have enouch. Plane is not repairable.

thats never a good thing to happen but welcome to the world of the great planes cap!! this plane really is a wee snapping pig!! From what ive seen and from one I bought a couple of years ago Great Planes really did somthing wrong with the design of this plane, be it airfoil/wingloading/cog who knows!! every one ive seen has been either crashed or repaired, whats that say. Personally I decided to use mine with a super tiger 45, I thought this would be ample power for such a small model... wrong! it bearly flew and as the great planes cap box said "torque rolls like the big ones" haaaa, a loop was a struggle. as a laugh I decided put a 61 pumper running a hattori pipe down the fuse which exited about 1 inch from the rudder. Flew great (at about 200mph) until the motor left the fuse during a high G knife edge spin, the plane was spinning around the engine(very violent) . dont get me wrong, ive seen these planes flying through the basic imac quite well but there far too unstable a design, and by the amound ive seen eat dirt somthing is really wrong.

I have one of these and I think it is one of the best flying small planes I have flown,BUT you have to have very little elevator throw to keep it from snapping in the ground.I have a magnum 80 4 stroke on it and it wil hover and torque roll great.

I forgot to tell you how it crashed. I ranged checked it w/ and w/o motor running. All controls were working perfectly. Low rates were used according to manual.
I lined up on runway. Gave some throttle to start the take off, I got it up to 1/2 throttle gradually, I had plenty of airspeed, Pull a little on the elevator, and a slow climb out, a she rolled to the left, (no problem i'll add some right stick,) I added some right, she kept rolling to the left! (I added more right!!!!), she kept rolling!!!!!!!!!. I finally got her stopped inverted w/ full right stick. Needless to say I was complete lost. She was inverted, less than 10ft. off the deck full right stick, Since this was her maiden flight, she was headed toward the runway, I couldn't think fast enough, she whet it. (I guess that makes the differance between a good pilot and great pilot. All I had to do was add a little down to at least buy me a little more time. ) Lost the entire plane. except motor and servos.

Sorry, my wife was telling me to get off the computer. It was actually rolling left, and I was added right stick.. I know all my surfaces worked correctly. sorry for the wrong input.
I know I didn't snap it into the ground, It was in slow motion. I have flown a few planes that snapped real easy. This didn't do it. With the plane inverted w/ full right stick. Less than 10ft. off ground, My mind and my finger would talk to each other. My fingers just locked up. My Eyes said, "Micheal give it a little down, and we will be fine.) My brain was saying, " OH CRAP, WERE FIXING TO CRASH.) Then my pants probably got sucked up my butt, due to the pucker factor. Then it was all over.
I then said CRAP. My wallet said , KISS THAT MONEY GOOD-BYE

No, ailreons were fine. I listened to the manual, that stated used these rates, "don't let the small alierons fool you, they are responsive"
So I set it up, and took on on low rates. I didn't have enough to correct the roll. I wish I could have flown the plane more than 10 secs. I would really like to know how it flys. But I will never know.
But what do you think about the covering. Do you like the design. I like the bottom the most.

I too have the GP Cap 232 and find it a very forgiving plane. Even at full throws (As per the book) I can bairly make it snap. OS 46 for power. It is one of my favorite planes. Lands super slow and is highly aerobatic. Sorry about your plane, Phil (Mesa, AZ)
