Default New Flip Evolution

Well sort of. I really like this plane and after spending 4 months really putting in the hours, i decided to improve things! The fuslage is now very much like the ZN line synergy 90 3D. It is deeper than the original flip by around 30% also it is curved on the bottom like the synergy. Also it now has a removable belly pan again AKA synergy! the pipe now is hidden under the wing. I have also lightened the airframe quite a bit.

Overall all improvements have helped. It now holds KE very well without coupling, also its even better at 3D because its lighter.

Engine : OS 50SX with hatori 544 tuned pipe.
Servos : JR 591 all round with carbon 3mm torque rods and balls links
Radio : JR PCM 10X

Well go on, get that knife out and get modifying. You may just be pleased with the results, i have been.

Quick reply lol, dont have a video yet cos i've only been flying it for a week. As soon as a video is made we will have it up at www.3drc.info The plane for me looks better now. Also it flys better. Especially for smooth type 3D. I have a 35MB video of the original flip flying 3D if anyone wants me to send it to them via MSN etc. E-mail me first [email protected] if you want me to send you the video.

Thanks

Andy

Chris,

I could hover mine on the 50SX in stock covering. No real authority on pull out and not very comfortably. 12X4 APC was best for this motor and plane for me.

Doug,

I have been using the JR R700 that came with the radio.

Have you had any problems with the 811 and that reciver?
I am using the 811 on the ailerons on my Flip and Hype and the servos go nuts trying to find and hold center. I have been using both the R600 and R700.

TIA

mine easily holds hover at 1/2 with the 50SX. Great engine. I'm using 10% pro synth synthetic fuel, and 13x4 prop.

Stomper,

I had the DS 811s in my H9 CAP 232 and Aeroworks 40 size Edge 540 with the JR R700 and had no problems. I installed the DS811s on my CG Extreme 330 and they were going nuts. Couldn't find or maintain center. I have two R700s and changed them, batteries, switch and scratched my head for a while. I ended up installing some JR 537s that I had and the problem went away. I think the DS811s need a little movement resistance to work properly. Doesn't make sense but thats what I think I learned. The wind resistance might be enough but I wouldn't fly the plane the way they were acting. I do like the R700 reciever, although I don't have any experience with other air recievers. I was a nitro truck and car guy before and this 8103, DS811, R700 was my first Air radio set up. Works well for me.

Andy,
I was never impressed with my OS 50SX from the start as compared to my OS46FX it was about the same performance wise. Another 3D guy at my field has one that really runs good so I thought I might have had a dud. after OS proceedure break-in and ample run time, when you would run mine through compression by hand, it just wouldn't hold compression like his does. I took it appart for inspection and found that somehow early in its life, it must have started to sieze or something was still in the crank case. Whatever the reason, a small amount of material transfered to the cyl wall. Inspection of the ring proved that 1/3 of it never seated except for the point of the raised area in the middle of the unseated ring area. Once I get it fixed up, it may make me much happier. All reports are that the 12 X 4 APC prop are the way to go with this motor. What prop are you running?

Andy, nice job

Did you modify an existing Flip or did you scratch build a new füze?

What about the wing, any mods there, or did you use the stock wing?

Errolw,

I'm using DS811's all around on my Flip and they totally freak-out when I turn it on, but once the engine is running and the prop is blasting wind over the surfaces, they stabilize.

I've got a 50SX w/a Tower Hobbies muffler on a SPA3D and it'll swing an APC 12.25x3.75 w/ the greatest of ease!

On my flip it is the original fus modified. The wing has also been lightened (ribs cut out). The fus has bottom decking sheeted to give the extra depth. The front is moified like the synergy, the undercarrige sits inside the fus and the belly pan slots over the top. It is almost identical to the ZN line synergy 90 fus.

Also, check out the new Hype 3D Pro.

Video at www.3drc.info ... we're working on video of the Flip-Evo at the moment. Just trying to work our way around a codec problem.

Squabbler,
Do your DS811s remain stabil in flight or coud they be causing some of your other problems as well? I still think your CG will fix a lot.

Nathan,
That Hype 3D Pro looks real good. I notice you still have your wing tips on. Have you tried it or the original Hype without them? What is your take on flying tipless?

Errol.... flying tipless definately increases rollrate, there's no doubt about that.

Really i should have taken them off... and i might... they just seem to get in the way now, they're really weak etc.

I havent tried flying tipless but my global freestyle is tipless, and the rollrate on that is insane.

Do you see any stability gain or reduction in coupling in KE flight with the tips cut?

But right after that for sure. Gonna have to do the Ailerons too though.

its done! well it was half and hour or so ago, just been cleaning up the mess, looks a bit tattier than before and the end ribs flex in but that was expected, after a session with the iron the end ribs now cave inwards a little bit as a result of the covering tightening but it should be ok, seems strong enough

anyway im off to bed now as my brain is already lacking 4 hours sleep from the night before, i can't think clearly anymore lol, [&:]

p.s: i'll let you know how the roll is next time i fly it, dunno wen that'll be, maybe tommorow (well today, sunday) but probaly not, if not then maybe next week...but then again maybe not (ok just ignore me now) lol
