Hi everybody,
I'm re-writing some instructions for some "RC Plane Power" kits, and received the first one today. It's a 60-size (5 to 6 lb) aircraft with about 970 square inches, called the "Extase". (pronounced "Ecstacy")
I was quite pleasantly surprised at the quality of this kit, built like a serious competitor would do it, with an emphasis on lightness...strength is built in only where it's needed. This is one of the nicest ARFs I've seen, in that regard. (I'm not a company rep, and I'm not being paid for the reviews, which appear on my site) These are jig-built, with wood glue instead of CA, and display excellent workmanship.
To keep up with the construction and flying reviews, just check my "Projects" page at http://www.nextcraft.com/rcprojects.html
I'm putting a YS .91 on this one, and it should be BIG fun! (Better photos will appear on my site in a few days.) You can contact "RC Plane Power" at (401) 231-5380

I'm presuming this is the S2G product from the Czech Republic (Or was it Teltech now)... the plane is a good flyer and has been around for coming up to a year in Europe. Its a cheap model here (UK)... whats it going for over there?

At this time, RC Plane Power is selling them for $229.95
This is a good deal, when you consider that many of the "average flyer" types of ARFs here are in the $300+ range.
I'm enthusiastic about this kit, due to the very nice workmanship and extremely light weight, and can't wait to fly it.

An economy version of the Diablotin? a 90 should be plenty for it. Diablotin std. is about the same weight but has 1000 sq wing.

Hi everybody!
For those of you interested in this nice 3d plane, the "Extase", I started the construction today, and have posted an update to the article on my web site. You can go there directly by clicking here. http://www.nextcraft.com/rcpp_extase01.html
It's so light, I'm sure it will be BIG fun!

Artistic-aero, can you give us a link to a hobby shop that sells this plane in the UK? I am wondering how much they cost there. A link would be most appreciated. I have found this kit in Italy for $270 (290 EURO) and in France for $255. But I can not find it n the UK?
Thank You!!
Thank You!!

Hi everybody,
Thanks to all of you who have emailed me!
I've corrected an error on the wing area, in my first post. I said it was 750 sq. inches, but it actually is 970 sq. inches. (I'm such a genius that I had measured the area without the ailerons attached.) Doh!
The airframe is complete. This week I'll install the radio gear and test-run the engine, and will fly it next weekend. (06-16-02) Can't wait!
In the meantime, I've posted a bunch of new photos on my web site. You can go directly to the article, at http://www.nextcraft.com/rcpp_extase01.html

I am loking at the pictures... It is defianately a very close Diablotin copy. Not only the general desing, but also many details are as per Diablotin. Now even the wing are seems to match. The only major difference seems to be the airfoil -- Diablotin has a "double convex" coke bottle shape airfoil.

I just spoke to Andy @ RC Plane Power on RI yesterday. Why, because I want one of these soon, and I have an extra YS91AC on the shelf for it. He told me that the new shipment, which they have received, are covered in the same transparent colors as, you guessed it, the Diablotin and/or the Diabolic. So now this Ecstase really looks like a clone of these planes. But who cares, @$229.00 it could look like a copy of a Ford, if it comes in at close to 6 lbs RTF with a YS91AC, then that's good for me.
We had a bit of a hot and humid weekend here in Los Angeles, and I found I did not have unlimited vertical with my 60SuDoKhoi w. YS91AC at 8 lbs. I had to fly out of a hover/TR, couldn't just pull vertical, a little unnerving he he.

Hi DKjens,
You'll really like this one! I've been very pleased with every step in assembling this airplane. It's light, straight, light, strong, and light.
Did I mention that it is light?!
I'll be flying it his weekend, with the YS .91 and will post photos and a report, both here, and in the article on my web site. Should be FUN!

What prop are you going to use on that YS91? Since as far as I know, a 16x4 isn't available or a 16x5, and a 16x6 is too big without major rework, maybe a 14x7 or 15x6 for good throttle response.

I haven't checked locally for the props you mentioned, but the 16/4 or 16/5 are the ones I've heard recommended most for this particular setup.
I have a bunch of 14/8 props, and so if I can't find what I need, will probably make the first test flights with them.

Ermmm... without wanting to put too finer detail on it... if you take one good design... take it apart, ship it to every ARTF factory around the world... just maybe... maybe... some similarities might occur.... I don't mean this in a bad way, just know it from experience.

Hello again everybody,
I finished test-running my YS .91, re-installed it, and the "Extase" is now ready to go! Although designed for a .60 2-cycle, the plane balanced properly with no additional weight required. This shows the good design, which allowed for the tank and battery to be positioned where they needed to be for balance.
The full construction article, with lots of photos, is on my web site, at http://www.nextcraft.com/rcpp_extase01.html
I've also attached an image. I expect to fly the plane this Sunday, (06-09-02) weather permitting, and will take photos at the field too. Following that, I'll post some trimming and flying tips on my site.
I can't wait to get this one in the air!

Mike,
Looking forward to read your flying experince with this on. The way the stabs are attached does not look very strong. Is there some kind of reinforcement that we just can't see and is not mentioned on your website? If not, then flying wires probably would not be a bad idea.

I didn't mention anything special in the construction article about the stab attachment, because it's simply no problem. Covering was removed on both parts in the mating areas. then small pinholes were poked into both parts, which adds some surface area for the glue joint, then the stab was glued on with epoxy.
Althugh this kit has been flown hundreds of times by others, using the suggested method, with no problems, I did take the liberty of also installing a small light ply plate in the fuselage, to give a little more surface area at that joint. This added maybe 1/4 ounce to the kit.
This is an extremely light kit, and I think the design is good. The only reason I changed anything was based on my experience with heavier kits, and I'll probably find that those changes were unnecessary. It's just hard to give up old habits, even if they're overkill. I'm flying the plane tomorrow, so I'll let all of you know tomorrow night.
One other thing should be said. This kit is designed for 3D-type flying, and so it's not one that you would fly at extremely high speed, doing sharp pullups, etc.. So far, I feel that it's plenty strong enough for it's designed purpose.

Hello!
A friend of mine and I went to the club flying field to test the "Extase" today, (and we were the only ones there!) but the weather was really bad... gusting between 25 and 35. So, no flying. I expect to do the test flights next Sunday, (06-16-02)and will post an update then. Stay tuned.

Hey Snot collector!!! Thanks fer the EX!!
Fun plane! Like booger boy said I've got an OS max .91 pullung this thing around with a 15x6 lotsa poop!! Good for hovering, even better for pulling out of a hover.. Balanced perfect with the Batt and receiver mounted aft..
Knife edge
No goog........ Everythin else,
YAHOOOOOOOO!! Harriers are very stable! Hovering has taken some getting used to, It has a very different rythem than the 40 size funflyies I've gotten used to, and still very different from my Aeroworks 120 size profile.. At first I thought it really didn't want to hover. The tail being so far from the prop it doesn't see much airflow. also, being so light, it doesn't require much thrust to maintain a hover. I just have to stay farther ahead of it, but it can be done! And it looks pretty cool when you get that long ***** thing standing on it's tail!!
This long tail is comprimise, you loose some control in a hover but you get it all back in "big sky aerobatics".. So far I've had a lot of fun with my profiles, The really are fun to hover, flat spin, knife, and other nameless moves that are only performed by short coupled funfly planes.. But if you've flown funlyies you know that big, smooth, and graceful aerobatics are out of the question! The EX performs in big sky shows like a 1/4 scale aerobat! It's really great for holding lines, slow, or hesitation rolls. Tourqe rolls always look more impressive when following a "big Sky" show, and vise versa.
So far the most fun I've had with this bird, is with the flaps down!! I've rigged the ailerons to drop as flaps, not sure how many degrees, but the trailing edge of the ailerons is about 1/4" below the bottom of the fuse. There is no need for elevator mixing!! The EX tracks the same with flaps up or down. But the EX becomes a real *****cat with them lowered! It will blow your mind how slow she will lift off with the flaps down!!
Happy flying!!
Booger bag,
Throw the U-contronl in the Burbon!!

The Extase is a product from a Czech company called s2G. The plane is available in the UK from Slough Models on (UK) 01753 522222. Last I saw it was around £150.00, that may have been with the engine, I am not sure. I know it was very very cheap. A lot were sold, the quality of s2G is sometimes a a bit suspect, and they have a reputation for this, however I recently heard that they were to merge with Teltech who produce good models so quality may well be improved. Of the flyers in the UK, it wa sreported to be a good plane and worth the money!

My name is Anthony Canario. I AM the sole importer of the S2G powered plane line in the USA.
Let me tell you why I import this line. Because I took the time to fly to Germany-Czech Republic and a few other European countries in search of new RC Planes. I visited the factory where these planes are built. I flew with the workers and the owner. I followed the construction from the first cut to the covering phase and I was IMPRESSED!! With the fact that I flew with the men building the planes. I was IMPRESSED with the fact that the planes are built with wood glue and allowed to jig dry. I was IMPRESSED with how each plane flew. I was IMPRESSED with the choice woods used and the level of QC.
As far as someone somewhere selling the plane for $219.00 USD with an engine? Well all I can say is must be in business to loose money. I know I would loose money on every Extase I sold if I sold it at that price with the cheapest .61 I could find!
As far as "suspect quality" goes. I have about 70 Extase planes in the field. I have about 7 customers who bought 2 of them cause they loved the plane and wanted a back up or a different color. Most sales stemmed from people that saw the plane fly and then wanted one. I have had one returned to me and I never asked why? Just gave the refund. The plane was perfect and I fly that one myself. I built it!
Locally one man "Lester" has an EXTASE I sold him about 7 months ago. He has flown the plane at least 120 to 140 flights. Loves it. He hung an OS 91 4str. on it. Lester flies 50/50 fun fly and sports flying. Plane flies as good today as it did the first time he took it out.
I guess it is a possibility that a lame batch made it out of the factory? Maybe that’s why they were so cheap at that time??
But this I do know. If any person buys an Extase from me and finds it to be anything less than a finely made plane. His money will be refunded. Like I said, 1 out of 70 returned. I fly that one to this day!
