basically im looking for a good aerobatic plane that will hover too, but i want to keep the size down
would this plane do? might need a .60 2 stroke?
any other suggestions for a plane?
thanks a lot

Hi Dan,
The great planes Cap 232 is a great airplane. Depending on the weight of the airplane a good 52 two stroke like the magnum 52 XLS will do the job. I ran my Cap with the Magnum 52 with a 12.25x3.75 prop and I was very happy with it. My plane came out at 5.5 pounds with a fiberglass cowl. The plane will hover, although it will not rocket out of the maneuver with the 52. I repowered this plane with a Magnum 80 four stroke with a 14x4W prop and I am VERY happy with this plane. The magnum 80 pulls it out of a hover with good authority.
My only complaints with the CAP is the size of the ailerons and the dihedral in the wing. The ailerons are too small and the wing dihedral introduces some undesired control coupling in knife edge. In retrospect, I would've built the ailerons larger, at least by 50%, and built the wing without any dihedral. Anyhow, the plane flies great. Just watch for tip stalling when you start slinging the plane around with those huge elevators!
Good luck,
Ken

I had this plane a couple of seasons ago. I flew it on an OS .61 FX. I ended up with the plane as well balanced/tuned/trimmed as it gets. I ended up with a very true and precise flying plane. But it was still a heavy little cap. Mine was over 6lbs, kind of embarassing. [link=http://www.devino.org/mark/airplanepics/cap232.htm]My notes are out on this URL[/link].

Dan,
Are you sure you want a Cap? You know they like to snap. I have a Kyosho Cap 232 w/ OS 91 on the front. I have to be really careful w/ the elevator b/ it loves to snap..... For me, it just makes things more interesting.

I'm finishing my GP Cap now. It will weigh in at 8 lbs/8oz. Siato 91 for power.
Nice kit to build. I did not reduce the dihedral, so I'll get to find out first hand if GP is right about the dihedral being required.....I hear alot of rumblings otherwise...
Plane on buying the aftermarket cowl (I used Stan's fibertech). I can't see how anyone could possibly assemble that three peice monster and have it look decent.

Mine does fantastic walls. Bends over backwards.
elevators/Harriers are rock steady with 5% spioleron mixed in.
I did increase the size of the ailerons, using 1 1/2 inch trailing edge. however I do wish I had decreased the dihedral and the weight.
AUW is 6lb 2oz, with a Saito 91.

I have one. Very nice plane. Learning to hover with it. Has a saito 91 in it with a stans cowl. weighs 5.25 lbs. Lands olmost like a
trainer. On KE it pitches to the gear and rolls back upright. alittle mix and no prob.
Have fun you will like it.

I have not found this plane to snap any more than any other plane. I have had no problems bringing it in for a nice slow 3 pointer landing.
Yes if you apply too much elevator too sharply it will snap, but as I said, no more than any other.

Although I haven't flown mine yet, I've seen several GP caps fly and for a 40 sized plane they have generous wing area (comparable to some 60 sized planes) and low weight, resulting in a very lightly loaded wing (much lighter loading than 40 sized ARF Caps I've seen). This should help make it fairly gentle and forgiving for a high performance aerobatic plane.

I agree with sprink.
The only time i have a problem with snap is coming in slow and try to crank it up into a hover to fast.
normal flying; no snap.
Keep it light and it will float.

The GP Cap 232 is on realflight G2. The blue red and white one. 40 size i think it is. ? Forget GP and buy a YA 60 sized cap 232 with Saito FA-100 the plane is incredible and more so with that engine. Plane a lil overpowered but man it will rocket out of a hover. No snap tendencies to this plane. None i have a problem with at least

You can go to www.yellowaircraft.com but i can tell you now that the YA cap is going to be more expensive than GP Cap. I heard the GP is a grewat plane to. One of my favs to fly on Real Flight. IMO you can't go wrong with either cap YA or GP. Absolutely love Cap 232's just me. But amn they are sexy bird LMAO

will the GP cap do blenders and flat spins?
what needs to be done to get it to hover?
i was thinking along the lines of a tower .61 or .75 engine in it...any other cheap suggestions?
thanks a lot

As with all planes this size without funfly wings, torque rolling is difficult, hovering impossible.
I suggest you get a fifty size 2 stroke, and work to make the plane light. There is plenty of scope for lightening the plane. depends on how much work you are willing to do.
Good fun plane though.

On the whole 60 size engines are not good for 3D - too heavy for the power they produce.
