Default CG Extra 300 for 3D

Don't know if I'm in the right forum to ask this but: Has anyone here bashed a Goldberg Extra kit (or any kit) for 3D?

I take it that 3D planes have control surfaces that are larger. Is it that the hinge line is more forward or is the (elevator, rudder) surface area increased without moving the hinge line? It seems that not much is said about the ailerons being enlarged.

The reason I ask is that I have a CG Extra kit that's been begging to be built for the last 6 years. Just returning to the hobby and I don't think the boss would appreciate seeing a box from Aeroworks or H9 sitting on the doorstep at this time.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight. Thanks RCUniverse!

Hi, I recommend kit bashing this plane , personally my CG extra was slightly modified but if I knew what I do now I would have modified more. My wings were foam instead of the wooden built up structures so I don't know how easy the kits ailerons are to mod but make them much deeper, and longer. My ailerons are about an inch from the fuse either side. I recommend looking at a picture of a larger 3d capable plane hovering and see the ratio of aileron size to wing size. The tail-plane is the biggest area of mod. Extend the rudder 1 inch and make the elevator exactly 1/2 of the stabilizer size. My rudder/ ailerons are good but I have standard elevator size and its not capable of solid elevators but still is a dream to torque roll, hover. On top of this its an awesome flying small plane.

Belows pic should show you the control surface size ratios you need. Hope this is of help.

So Mike this is an actual picture of your Goldberg with modifications? Thanks for the info, I'm taking notes, hopefully there will be more input from other kit bashers out there

I wish!!! No this is actually a 40% big 3W 330 but I was using it to show the proportions of the control surfaces to the planes outline. Make all the CG Extras surfaces the same relative size as the picture and your away laughing!! My extras below
