I am an intermediate flyer. I am use to low wing high power planes. I put together and flew my first Full Acrobat 3-D plane today. I can handle it pretty well, but almost crashed it today trying to use the flaps.
Can anyone try their best to explain how and when to use flaps?
All I know is you can fly very slow when they are down. Thanks

It depends on wether or not you have them setup proportional to the elevator or just on a up or down switch. I have my flaperons set on a 3 position switch, where up is spoilerons, middle is nuetral, and down is flaperons. I use my flaperons for really slow flybys. The best time to apply them is when you have washed of some speed, as when you apply flaps models tend to balloon. You may also have to mix in some elevator correction to stop this even at low speeds. Then do your manouever, throttle up and gain speed, then flick them off. Simple as that!!!! If that makes sense.

Okay cool! When I applied the flaps with no elevator, the plane went straight down. thankly I caught it in time. I got this new Futaba Transmitter and has the Flapperons option, but spoilerons are new to me. So you are saying I need mix three channels total, ailerons and elevator?

I was going slow. If I was going any faster than what I was, I wouldn't have been able to recover the plane in time. One thing my dual rates are set at 100% maximum throws. So it's pretty easy to lose control with these huge control surfaces, and makes it worse when you do something stupid like I did.
