Default 0S 160fx or moki 180

I am looking into buying an edge which ways roughly 12.5-14lbs Which of these engines will be best will they provide enough power for vertical performance and some to spare (0S 160fx or moki 180)! Or is there another engine which will be beter?

Any one know how much the Moki 180 ways?

Cheers Rob

Look on the just engines website.
www.justengines.co.uk

When you choose bettween the two make sure you take into account the fact that the OS comes with a silencer- the Moki 180 doesnt and you need an aviation alloys silencing system to get the noise down, which costs around £80

If you're talking 3D flying, at 12.5 the OS will be at the upper weight limit. The Moki will pull 12.5 lbs around just fine. Anywhere near the 14 lbs and you better get the Moki 2.1. The OS 160 will only be good for sport flying at 14 lbs.

Moki 2.1 46 ounces
Moki 1.8 41 ounces
OS 160 33 ounces

I have a Moki 1.8 on my 13-lb Cap. It swings APC 18x6@9400 rpm peak, which pulls 19lb static thrust measured. It's just enough. The same plane w/ OS 160 would weigh 12.5 lb, and would pull about 18lb static thrust. Pulling power may not be as good, but plane will fly better due to lighter weight. Another question to ask is, will the OS balance the plane w/o nose weight? If so, go w/ OS. Just swing APC 18x6W prop on high nitro fuel (15%~20%) to get extra power and transition.

The O.S will balance the plane w/o nose weight! But iam going to want to be able to fly 3D with the plane! So a i think bigger will be better although as you said i will suffer a weight penalty! The OS is the suggested engine for the plane but i am thinking that it wont really have enough power and dont want to spend £1000 on having a plane which cant do what i want!!

Thanks for your help every one! Are there any other engines which would do the job, the lighter the better!!

What is the wing area of the plane you are thinking about using. This is a major factor in deceding the proper engine for the plane especially 3D. Sure you could slap a large engine and there and have excellent power out of a hover but it would fly all other 3D manuevers like a brick.
