Inverting motor mount on 46 UCD

I'm planning to run the motor right side up on the 46 U-CAN-DO and was wondering if the motor mount can just be inverted, or does it have to be lowered? Thanks.

Just a heads-up on mounting it upright-
This will throw off the thrust lines.
If you still want to use the cowl, you won't be able to. Flipping the motor mount around will raise the engine and the crankshaft/spinner plate won't line up with the hole in the cowl.

The thrust lines remain aligned when mounting the engine upright, Just line up the marks on the firewall with the marks on the motor mount. Centers will line up. I looked at putting Saito side mount but throttle linkage looked to be a challenge and the Perry oscillating pump would stick out the other side. My engine is upright.

While I had hesitations about running the engine inverted on my UCD, once the engine is broken in, there are no problems. For the first few starts, until you lean the engine out for peak performance, try using the buddy system and starting the engine with the plane inverted. Good luck whatever you do.

csdilley, I realize that, but it appears that mounting it right-side up will put the crankshaft centerline higher than if it was inverted.
I don't see any reason to run without the cowl. I have not had any overheating issues, just make the cut-out in the front generous, and cut a good hole in the bottom for the air to exit. And it looks so much better with the cowl on...
FWIW, I have had zero problems with mine inverted. I just fuel right before I know I'm going to fly and leave the probe in the quick-fuel valve till the last second. Then I make sure to pump out any fuel that may be left in the tank afterwards.
EDIT: looking at that pic of the UCD without the cowl, it appears that the crank centerline is very close to where it would be if the engine was inverted. I took a closer look at mine, and the mounting beams are not centered up and down. So I assume that that will even it out if you flip the motor mount over.

I had a ucandu and I only flew it for 3 days . My os46 would never start right with the engine inverted. I would always flood on me. That is what left the sour taste in my mouth about the ucandu.... Now I have the great "tip stall monster" aka Funtana
